Dual Participation Guidelines All athletes participating in MISD Athletics make a commitment to their respective school athletics program, their teammates, and their school. Each program demands the dedication of time and energy. Part of this commitment is to be a student and strive for academic excellence. Another integral part of that commitment is to place the MISD athletic team above participation in any non-school sanctioned activity and attend all practices scheduled by the DJMS coaches. If an athlete chooses to miss an MISD practice or competition because of participation in an activity not under the auspices of the MISD, the student athlete will be suspended for one game unless the absence is previously approved by the coach. Upon the second unapproved offense, the athlete has chosen the outside activity over the MISD sport, and she will be dismissed from the team. II. Injury and Insurance Guidelines MISD does NOT carry insurance for athletes, in the event of an athletic injury the athlete is responsible for communicating with the coach. The coach will communicate all injuries with parents and if needed then the appropriate athletic trainer will be contacted. In the event that an athletic trainer is not available to evaluate an injury, and the athlete sees a physician, the athlete should report to the coaches the next school day, with proper documentation from the physician, before being allowed to participate in practice. The athletic trainer will communicate with the appropriate coach in a timely fashion after evaluating an athlete’s injury. The athlete also needs to follow up with her coach after any trainer evaluation or treatment – daily. It should be understood that there are physical risks associated with participating in any sports program. Serious injury is not out of the question, so pay attention to your individual warm-up needs and take care of your body. III. Practice/Grade/ Discipline Policy Absences All players will be expected to attend every scheduled practice. Danny Jones will be on even days. If the athlete is absent from a practice more than three times, than the athlete, parent and coach will meet to determine if the athlete will be able to swim at the district meet on the 23rd of May. Grades If the student fails for the 5th six weeks then that will not be able to participate in swimming until deemed academically eligible at the 6th week progress report. Office Referrals and AC/ Suspensions in Accordance to DJMS athletic policy 1. Run 3 miles (must complete this in 3 days) 2. Run 5 miles (must complete this in 5 days), 3.
