C. Catalog Description: This course reviews paramedic skills and content as it relates
to cardiovascular and pediatric emergencies, including advanced level patient assessment,
BLS and ALS airway skills, and pharmacology. In this course we review state-of-the-art
and current national standards for Paramedic prehospital emergency care. Successful
completion of this course and its co-requisite (EG 116) leads to eligibility for the NYS
Paramedic Certification Exam, as well as Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric
Advanced Life Support.
Co-requisites:
EMS Refresher and Update EG116.

G. Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to
demonstrate competency in the current national standards for assessment and
management of broad variety of medical and trauma emergencies.
1. Become knowledgeable of current pre-hospital emergency medical updates in the
areas of cardiac emergencies, including assessment, management and
pharmacology related to those topics.
2. Attain current American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiac Life Support
course completion.
3. With the completion of this course and its respective co-requisite, recertify as a
NYS EMS provider at their respective level of care as a Paramedic.

linked to successful completion of the AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support,
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and related areas of the NYS Skill and
Written Exams, including patient assessment, basic and advanced airway
management, cardiovascular emergencies, and pediatric emergencies.

In addition, the EMT Department maintains a collection of EMS journals
including the Journal of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services Journal
in additional to the library holdings.
