OCR Cambridge Award/Extended Award/Certificate in Mathematics Entry Level 1-3 and Level 1 and 2 Overview This qualification gives pupils the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in one or more specific skill areas within the different elements of mathematics, up to level 2; and ultimately, leading to functioning more effectively in their homes, communities and in the work place. These qualifications provide a unit-based approach; that can stand alone or be part of a wider programme. Achievement of individual qualifications supports learners’ progress towards an appropriate level 2 mathematics qualification. They allow learners to target specific gaps in their knowledge at a particular level, rather than undertaking an entire course (some of which may or may not be relevant to their learning needs). Throughout this qualification pupils are supported and motivated through the achievement of smaller, more focused qualifications which provide them with the capacity and confidence to continue learning and achieving en route to their ultimate aim. Once a specific knowledge gap has been filled by one of the units, learners can progress to a higher level in the suite. Assessment The delivery of these qualifications is adopted through a holistic approach and identifies opportunities to link the Cambridge Award/Extended Award/Certificate in Mathematics qualifications to others areas of the curriculum. The Cambridge Award/Extended Award/Certificate in Mathematics suite of qualifications is made up of single-unit Award qualifications. Extended Award qualifications require a number of units to be achieved, up to at least 5 credits, and Certificate qualifications require a number of units, up to at least 13 credits, to be achieved. Learners do not have to achieve units in any particular order and the learning programmes are tailored to meet individual needs. It is recommended that, wherever possible, centres These qualifications are externally assessed by OCR. Assessments are available on paper and onscreen. All units are graded as pass/fail. Assessments are available as both on-screen and paperbased tests. The majority of units are available via scheduled windows for both on-screen and paper. A selection of units is also available on-screen, on demand. Learning Outcomes At each level, learners will secure the following abilities: • Entry Level 1 - learners will have mathematical abilities that range from the most elementary of achievement to beginning to make use of specific skills • Entry Level 2 - learners will have mathematical abilities, knowledge and understanding to carry out simple skills with guidance • Entry Level 3 - learners will have mathematical abilities, knowledge and understanding to carry out specific skills with appropriate guidance when needed • Level 1 - learners will have mathematical abilities, knowledge and understanding to competently carry out specific skills • Level 2 - learners will have mathematical abilities, knowledge and understanding to carry out specific extended skills.
