Special Education Program at Envision Education The Department of Special Education’s mission is for students with diverse learning needs to have access to supports that provide educational opportunity at a rigorous college prep high school. We believe that special education is a service not a place, and that all students have the right to be fully included in the general education classrooms with their typical peers for the greatest extent possible (least restrictive environment). Envision Education is a founding member of the Statewide Charter SELPA and each Envision School is a Local Education Agency (LEA), providing the continuum of services to meet the needs of students with identified learning needs through our Learning Centers. Students receive high quality services from a team of innovative professionals who possess an unwavering belief in success for each student and who share their knowledge of current research and practice. A Learning Center facilitated by the Special Education team serves as the school site experts in intervention. Within our community of professional practice, the role of Learning Specialist is that of collaborator, co-teacher, and coach. With opportunities to provide professional development, provide support to develop Response to Intervention (RTI), and collaborate with general education staff, the position of Learning Specialist is uniquely positioned for leadership development and growth within the organization. Envision Education is looking for passionate Special Educators who are interested in being part of this innovative model and have a desire to support learning and post-secondary success for all students in the urban communities of the Bay area. RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead Learning Specialist: There is typically one Lead Learning Specialist for each school site. In addition to Learning Specialist responsibilities, the Lead Learning Specialist has additional leadership and compliance responsibilities including the following: Intervention and Leadership: Provide direction, support and coaching to other Learning Specialists. Meet regularly with other Lead Learning Specialists to share best practices and develop targeted PD opportunities. Collaborate with other Lead Learning Specialists to gain alignment across schools in implementing programs. Participate in school site Lead team Envision Education Lead Learning specialist team Develop or collaborate with school site Lead Teachers to develop PD for staff Learning Center: Develop agendas and facilitate weekly Learning Center meeting and focus on developing Learning Center team Develop Learning Center schedule, procedures, and resources for students; ensure student access and appropriate service minutes Regularly conduct accommodation and performance audit for school assignments. LEA/Special Education: Serve as LEA coordinator for site, interfacing with Program Specialist and Director of Special Education Responsible for procedural compliance related to initial, annual and triennial IEP’s for site. Ensure appropriate testing accommodations (CAHSEE, SAT & ACT). Work with school Administration and/or College Advisor to ensure support success for identified students. Guide Child Find activities, support advisors & Administrators through referral process (Level III Intervention). Coordinate transition IEP’s for incoming new students, including 30-day transfer IEP’s; serve as contact person for incoming 9th graders. Through Transition Services, assist in finding transition options for 12th graders including applications for waivers for eligible 12th graders. Successful candidates will: Be committed to serving students in the Least Restrictive Environment Be an effective leader amongst peers in the Learning Center as well as on the school leadership team, and the Envision-wide Special Education team Be highly self-reflective and committed to improving his/her practice; be an expert at giving and receiving critical feedback Manage caseloads, projects, and people well and provide instructional leadership to the Learning Center team Support general education colleagues acting as a mentor and coach around using interventions and support students with IEPs.
