The essay topic is about a historical document that has played an important role in the establishment of our nation. This year’s topic will be: The Declaration of Independence. The essay should be written for the benefit of someone who has never studied The Declaration of Independence. It should address the ideas in the document that were important to Americans during the latter half of the 18th century and should explain why these ideas remain important today. Judging will be based on originality, organization, development, and style Entries should be limited to 1,500 words, excluding citations, and should be typed, with double spacing and oneinch margins, on one side of white letter sized paper.
