REIN BACK OVER A POLE (Ridden or In Hand)
Scoring Guidelines:Effectiveness + Style
Suggested variations for levels:
Level 1
Place 2 front feet over pole and then rein back
Level 2
Place 2 front feet over pole and then rein back
Level 3
Walk over pole with all 4 feet before reining back
Level 4
Pole raised – then as level 3
Equipment…
 1 red flag, 1 white flag
 One half round or square pole and some raisers
 1 number

Objectives…
Rider must show the obedience of the horse at reining back and the appropriateness of the actions
of the rider. Judging will commence when the horse is in postion and finishes when all four feet are
on the starting side of the pole.The gait that the horse enters and leaves the obstacle is not fixed,
The rider may ride without stirrups.
Effectiveness faults…
 Touching the pole
 Break in the horse’s motion
 Refusal or running out or steping off pole (to the side)
Style evaluation …
 Regular backwards motion
 Discreet rider aids
Deductions …
 Foot outside of the obstacle

Barrels placed 1.00m apart
Level 2
Barrels placed 0.90m apart
Level 3
Barrels placed 0.80m apart
Level 4
Barrels placed 0.80m apart

 4 large barrels approx 1 meter high

Objectives…
Rider must pass between the barrels, without touching them whilst keeping to the initially choosen
gait.

 Change in gait including a break in the horse’s forward motion
 Refusal or running out or steping back

Where there is a change of gait the obstacle is marked at the lowest gait. Resumption of initial gait is
not acknowledged

THE HOO-LA-HOOP IMMOBILITY
Scoring Guidelines:Time
Equipment…
 1 red flag, 1 white flag
 A large hoo-la-hoop (or similar)
 Stop watch
 1 number
Features…
 Riders may enter the obstacle either mounted or led. (Stirrups must be safe for led obstacle)
 The first time starts when the horse and/or rider first pass through the flags.
 The rider has 10 seconds to position the horse with both front feet within the hoop.
 The horse must remain in the hoop for 10 seconds.
 The rider must not touch the horse or move during the immobility.
 Use of the voice is permitted.
Objectives…
Demonstrate the obedience and calmness of the horse.
Time Criteria…
 Horse must remain in the hoop for 10 seconds
 The rider is awarded 1 point per second that the horse remains within the hoop
Deductions …
 Horses’ front feet not in the hoop within 10 seconds – 10 (giving 0 for obstacles)
 Foot outside of the obstacle
