The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme
Bronze Award Examiner Assessment Course
Saturday 24th October 2015 Venue: Forfar, Angus, Scotland DD8 1WG
(Delegate Numbers are Limited)
Aim & Eligibility
The aim of the Bronze Examiner Assessment Course is to provide a route to examine Good
Citizen Dog Scheme tests. To be eligible, instructors must have a minimum of 5 years’ involvement
with the Scheme. This may include being part of a training club, taking part in a test with your own
dog, and/or stewarding/assisting a test. Candidates will also require 3 years’ dog training
instructing experience in a class situation and must be able to show where they have instructed a
class without assistance. This course will also be beneficial to current Scheme Examiners who are
already qualified but wish to develop their knowledge.
Course Itinerary
The itinerary has been designed to give candidates an opportunity to be assessed as an Examiner
on the Scheme’s procedures at Bronze level. The course will consist of a comprehensive
presentation of the Scheme’s standards, a written examination and practical assessment. The
written examination will be in the form of a multiple choice paper, from which candidates will be
required to gain a 75% pass mark.
Practical Sessions
During the practical assessment sessions, candidates will be asked to take control of a class as a
Scheme Examiner would during a test situation. Candidates will need to demonstrate ability to
recognise and apply the Scheme standards in various scenarios, make decisions and provide
feedback to dog handlers.
Time
The course time will be confirmed upon receipt of your application form but it is likely it will
commence at 9.15am and will conclude at approximately 6.00pm. As there is a full itinerary,
candidates who wish to attend must ensure they are able to commit themselves for the duration of
the course. The course fee includes delegate notes, and refreshments throughout the day. Lunch
is not provided; delegates are advised to bring a packed lunch, or there are several fast food
outlets nearby where lunch can be purchased.
Award
Candidates who attend the course and successfully achieve a ‘pass’ grade will be approved to
examine the Bronze Award and placed on the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Examiner
‘A3’ list. Results of the assessment will be given at the end of the course day and successful
candidates will receive a certificate of confirmation.
Publication on List of Approved Examiners
If you complete the course and achieve a ‘pass’ grade, your details will be included in the Kennel
Club list of Approved Examiners and be available for Training Clubs and Organisations to contact
you for the purposes of inviting an examiner. These details will also be available on the Kennel Club
website. The information provided on the list will only include your name, town and county of
