Becoming a Legal Rhetoric Dean’s Fellow Application Deadline: Friday, February 13, 2015, 5:00 p.m. What do Legal Rhetoric Dean’s Fellows do? Classroom Fellows Prepare for and attend assigned Legal Rhetoric class and assist Instructor with classroom exercises and peer review. Teach citation and writing strategy moments under Instructor supervision. Check citation and writing strategy quizzes and provide timely feedback to students. Grade Research, Citation, and Writing Strategy Exam. Hold conferences with students to give feedback on drafts of writing assignments. Set times for and hold office hours (2 hours per week). Plan and conduct individual citation and research review workshops for assigned class. Serve as peer mentors. Keep faculty informed about individual student problems or areas where the section as a whole needs extra assistance in grasping a particular concept. Provide administrative support to faculty, as needed. Attend mandatory Dean’s Fellow Orientations (usually the Wednesday evening before classes start in August and the Sunday afternoon before classes reconvene in the spring). Assist with the 1L Rhetoric Orientation (before classes start in August). Attend meetings of Dean’s Fellows called by faculty, as necessary. Attend supplemental research classes (currently 5 supplemental research classes per year). Writing Fellows Provide one-on-one assistance to students needing extra assistance with writing and research assignments throughout the academic year. Attend meetings of Dean’s Fellows called by Rhetoric faculty. Attend mandatory Dean’s Fellow Orientations (usually the Wednesday evening before classes start in August and the Sunday afternoon before classes reconvene in the spring). Attend a special orientation (usually the Saturday before classes begin in the Fall) as called by the Academic Coordinator. Assist with the 1L Rhetoric Orientation (before classes start in August). (1) Complete the attached application cover sheet, (2) prepare a cover letter, and attach (3) your current resume and a (4) writing sample (10 pages maximum). Submit your application packet to the application box in the Legal Rhetoric Suite (Room 129). Do this by the deadline: February 13, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. In the cover letter, please explain 1) why you are interested in a Rhetoric Dean’s Fellow position, 2) advise us of your other extra-curricular commitments, and 3) indicate why you prefer to be a Classroom Fellow or Writing Fellow (or whether you would be happy with either position).
