The Bruce Nesbitt African American Cultural Center is dedicated to providing an environment to honor and continue the work of Bruce Nesbitt himself. This becomes possible through the help of students at the University of Illinois, the surrounding community, and the Nesbitt family. Previous to his help at the university, Bruce served in the Korean War and served on the Champaign police force. This former work helped in keeping a particular eye on the African American population on and around campus. One of Bruce’s best known accomplishments was creating a better bridge between the community and the university for the betterment of the students. To this day, the cultural center works not only as a service to the university but to the community as well.
