Global Citizenship & Equity (GCE) Research & Education Strategist
Academic Excellence Unit/Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Inclusion (GCE&I)
(This position is initially open to full-time, bargaining unit employees of the College)

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Global Citizenship Education and Inclusion Programs, the GCE Research & Education Strategist
supports the development, design and implementation of College’s transformational learning initiatives related to global
citizenship, equity, and inclusion. This position will support the operationalization of the core elements of the Signature
Learning Experience (SLE) and work to build an inclusive learning environment through global citizenship, equity and inclusive
education events for staff and students. This position is responsible for academic and administrative leadership in the Centre
for GCE&I for the Centre’s research and scholarship program. This position is accountable for the planning, development, and
delivery of multiple and varied Centre for GCE&I research publications and scholarly activities.
Responsibilities:











Plans, manages, and leads transformative learning initiatives and events for all staff and students on topics related to
global citizenship, equity and inclusion.
Collaborates with external stakeholders, COLT, Student Life, and Academic Divisions to assist in the development of
learning opportunities and events for all staff/students related to GCE&I and assist with the coordination of school
efforts to encourage student participation as a co-curricular requirement.
The position is also responsible for creating a research agenda for the Centre, and providing leadership in identifying
potential research programs, developing research proposals, identifying sources of funds, the coordinating the
implementation of research projects and establishes effective communication of research results internally and
externally.
Provides leadership by linking service learning activities (Global Citizenship & Equity Learning Experiences GCELEs)
with academic program outcomes and course assignments and credits post-arrival
Leads, plans, develops, and implements medium and long-term goals and objectives for the development and
delivery of multiple research and online publications for the Centre for GCE&I.
Acts as Managing Editor and oversees the production of the Global Citizenship 2.0, the Centennial College Magazine
for Global Citizenship and Inclusive Education.
Researches, writes, and produces articles for the magazine on topics of global citizenship, equity, social media,
education, and social justice.
Coordinates all phases of the design, creation, publication, and distribution of the Global Citizenship 2.0 magazine.
Collaborates with the Manager of GCE&I Programs to assist in the development of program goals and
implementation assistance in the execution of the, as well as visiting scholar meetings with public officials and the
media.
Manages the Global Scholar’s at Risk Program for Centennial College including establishing the program and the
placement/support of program scholars in the college community.
Leads the planning, development, and implementation of research and outreach program initiatives to promote and
facilitate the Office’s vision, goals, and values of equity, human rights, global citizenship, and social justice.
Qualifications/Experience:


Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Social Sciences, or other related field.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in developing and implementing academic and student service programming
related to Global Citizenship, Inclusion & Equity; and experience in research design, analysis and development of
major research projects and tools.

Proven experience editing, writing, and developing electronic and print scholarly publications.

Experience in International Service Learning or International Development, experiential education, community
engagement and social innovation initiatives strongly desired.

Demonstrated experience in College level pedagogy, adult learning, and student development principles

Demonstrated experience writing proposals, reports and statistical analysis.

Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/presentation) and demonstrated ability to engage internal and external
stakeholders across all levels of organizations.

Strong leadership skills that are inclusive – with ability to engage, inspire, and facilitate change.

An innovative thinker who can both work towards a defined strategy and bring new ideas/opportunities to the table

Strong analysis and report-writing abilities with a high attention to detail.

Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a unionized environment with a diverse student
and staff population.
