CSFAC Bemis School of Art and District #11 Fall 2011 Talented in Art The goal of the Talented in Art program, a collaboration of the Bemis School of Art and District #11, is to challenge and accelerate advanced art students in grades 3-5 and is intended to develop the student’s academic potential and to excel them in art with an in-depth comprehensive understanding of visual arts. All courses offered are designed to include lectures, interactive projects as well as visits to the Fine Arts Center Main galleries (classes at Bemis School of Art only). The Colorado Academic Standards will be applied to the Talented in Art program. MONDAY Young Masters I: Drawing Instructor: Barbara Dimond Class will be held 3:45-5:15p.m. 10 weeks, begins Monday, October 17, 2011. Class ends January 23, 2012. One Snow day available. No classes: November 21-25, 2011 Thanksgiving Break, December 19-30, 2011 Winter Break, January 2-6, 2012 New Years Break and January 16, 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Class limited to 15 students. This class is designed for the student interested in drawing, basic art techniques and concepts. Students will learn to draw what they see and explore the principals of design. Students will learn the visual art vocabulary to discuss and write about art. Materials will include pencil, marker, pen & ink, pastels and more. Teacher will include: Principles of design Review of the elements of art Glossary of relevant terms List and description of art supplies used in class Information on 4 relevant artists Historical information 1-2 critique writing assignments TUESDAY Art around the World Instructor: Gabriella Christians Class will be held 3:45–5:15p.m. 10 weeks, begins Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Limited to 15 students Students will learn and explore the various arts and crafts of cultures from around the world. Students may learn batik, kite-making, block-printing, drawing, painting, ceramics and more to help the student better understand and appreciate the arts and cultures of Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas. An emphasis will be placed on discussions and writing about the elements and principles of art. This is an exciting class for every young artist. Students will take their drawing skills to the next level! Explore drawing with watercolor pencil, pen and ink, as well as charcoal. Students will learn to use color, value and form to create depth, sophistication and detail in their works of art. Students will be given expanded opportunities for creative expression, and increased time for more carefully refined work.
