God’s Plan
Passion Through Christ
•
His Son would be rejected
– Jesus was despised by those in authority
– People are still rejecting Jesus today
Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and forsaken of
men, a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief; and like one
from whom men hide their face He
was despised, and we did not
esteem Him.
Matthew 27:39-40
39
And those passing by were
hurling abuse at Him, wagging their
heads 40 and saying, “You who are
going to destroy the temple and
rebuild it in three days, save
Yourself! If You are the Son of
God, come down from the cross.”
•
His Son would suffer for His people
– Griefs are wounds, sicknesses, afflictions
– Sorrows are pain or anguish
•
He was punished for our
Jesus accepted His mission
– He did not fight or argue to avoid the suffering that was ahead
(53:7)
– His life was marked by submission to His Father
– His willing death and burial demonstrated surrender of His will to
the Father’s will

He was oppressed and He was
afflicted, yet He did not open His
mouth; like a lamb that is led to
slaughter, and like a sheep that is
silent before its shearers, so He did
not open His mouth.
Matthew 27:14
And He did not answer him with
regard to even a single charge, so
the governor was quite amazed.

His grave was assigned with wicked
men, yet He was with a rich man in
His death, because He had done no
violence, nor was there any deceit
in His mouth.

prominent member of the Council,
who himself was waiting for the
kingdom of God; and he gathered
up courage and went in before
Pilate, and asked for the body of
Jesus. 46 Joseph bought a linen
cloth, took Him down, wrapped
Him in the linen cloth and laid
Him in a tomb which had been
hewn out in the rock; and he rolled
a stone against the entrance of the
tomb.

– Iniquities – receiving a punishment for wrong doing
– Healing – cure after being sick, injured, or diseased

But He was pierced through for
our transgressions, He was crushed
for our iniquities; the chastening
for our well-being fell upon Him,
and by His scourging we are
healed.
Luke 23:33a
When they came to the place called
The Skull, there they crucified
Him.
John 19:34
But one of the soldiers pierced His
side with a spear, and immediately
blood and water came out.
•
One would die so that many could live
– Because of Jesus’ obedience, there is opportunity for all who
believe in Him to be saved from their sins
– Through Jesus’ sacrifice of blood, sins can be forgiven, removing
the barrier that separates us from God
What does this mean for me?
•
God’s Son has died so that your sins may be forgiven
•
God asking you to submit and surrender to Him
•
Believe in Jesus Christ today
