Experience the arts as an important part of daily life in the mid-1800s at Fort Nisqually Living History Museum. Interact with the dozens of re-enactors and the Fort’s artisans as they showcase 19th century skills such as spinning, weaving, beading, blacksmithing, woodworking, open-fire cooking, and musical entertainment. Here is the link of the website for the fort: http://www.metroparkstacoma.org/calendar/?cid=3191&park_id=129 I enjoyed very much our conferences. I always gain new insight into your students and how we might better help them learn. Thank you for your time and support of your students. MATH We have begun our work on fractions and decimals. Place value is critical to this phase. Let me know if you think your student is struggling too much. READING/WRITING: Students have started to read My Side of the Mountain, the next novel. Ask them about the main character and the general content. See Social Studies SCIENCE: OWL PELLETS!!! We had fun beginning to break down the pellets. We wear gloves and clean the desks after we do them. Each student works on paper towels and all the fur is discarded. Let me know if your student had any reaction/problems with the pellets. They will be arranging the bones and it’s always fun to see how they come out! SOCIAL STUDIES: Our Columbus brochures have been started. We hope to finish them on Monday. One of the elements in Common Core standards is to read/compare/analyze different informational texts. We did that with some texts about Columbus this past week, and now are writing our 5 paragraph essay about what we learned. Concepts covered: Who is the audience? Why don’t all the texts say the same thing? What was the author’s purpose? Next comes our review of Native Americans in the past. Have a great weekend. As always be sure to ask questions, get answers, and have fun. I’m always available for conferences if you’d like more in-depth responses.
