Highlights so far in year 4: 1009344 Viking Day 1009366 some children had fun making cups out of clay 1009363 We made jewellery and painted it! 1009369 The Longships were fantastic! 1009368 Some children chose to design and make Viking Longhouses.. 1009373 Viking flat bread with honey, delicious! 1009345 We set up a battle re enactment- ‘CHARGE!’ 1009343 On Roald Dahl Day we all dressed up as characters from the story. Our topic at the moment is ‘Our local area’ and we walked around the village looking for human and physical features. Beautiful fabric was woven at the old mills in Scissett and Queen Victoria wore shawls made here. 1009475 A visit to the old Weaver’s cottage in Skelmanthorpe gave us a good idea of what life was like in the late 19th and early 20th century. 1009464 There was only 2 rooms in the cottage and the weaving loom was kept in the upstairs bedroom. We saw the loom working. A few weeks later we visited the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. This was fantastic and enjoyed by everyone. 1009537 we found out the story of cotton from plant to fabric and compared the massive machines to the old loom in the weaver’s cottage. 1009482 We loved the discovery floor 1009549 and the forces workshop! 1009681 Back at school we tried our own weaving on card looms with brilliant results. 1009682 1009680 we painted fantastic pictures in the style of Lowry.
