This spring, Huxley College of the Environment will award more than $20,000 in scholarships to our students for the 2015-16
academic year. Please review the scholarship criteria and check the one(s) that you wish to apply for. Then fill out the following
pages and return all materials to ES 539 or email to Kara.Franklin@wwu.edu by Friday, April 10, 2015.
Note: Huxley College requires each applicant to write a one-page statement that (a) describes educational and career goals; (b) addresses
scholarship-specific topics, as noted in the scholarship-specific criteria below; and (c) states how the scholarship-specific criteria are met.

Scholarships for students in the Huxley College of Environmental Studies
at WWU.
Funds to be awarded to Huxley College students at the discretion of the
Dean.
Financial need. Statement should include a description of career plans
and how those plans will have a positive impact on the environment.
Academic promise and demonstrated financial need. Preference given
to members of an underrepresented population and first generation
college/college-bound students.
Junior class standing. GPA of 3.3 or higher. Financial need. Preference
given to a diverse candidate.
Statement should include outlining commitment to conservation of
public land and preservation of the natural environment and applicant's
related career plans.
GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need. Statement should include a
description of applicant’s community involvement.
Huxley College undergraduate student with special interest, aptitude,
and aspiration in photography. Statement should include applicant’s
plans to use photography as a tool for environmental advocacy.
Huxley College undergraduate student with an interest in disaster risk
reduction. Statement should include an outline of applicant’s interest in
the emergency management field.
Environmental science student. Preference given to members of an
underrepresented population and first generation college students.
Statement should describe why they have chosen this path and how it
relates to their goals.
Huxley College student or entering student with demonstrated financial
need.
Huxley College sophomore from Western Washington with a 3.0 GPA or
higher majoring in energy studies, environmental studies, or
environmental science.
Huxley College undergraduate student in Environmental Science. Senior
standing by fall 2014. GPA 3.0 or higher. Financial need. Statement
should include a description of applicant’s interest in terrestrial ecology.
Huxley College student preparing for career in wildlife biology. Financial
need. GPA 3.0 or higher. Statement should include description of how
student is preparing for a career in wildlife biology.
Huxley College undergraduate transferring in from a Washington State
Community College.
GPA of 3.0 or higher. Legal resident of Washington State. Financial need.
Statement should include a description of applicant’s community
service, good character, and demonstrated ability.

scholarship-specific topics, as noted in the scholarship-specific criteria on page one of this application;
and (c) states how you meet the scholarship-specific criteria. If you are applying for multiple scholarships,
you may include more than one statement as necessary.
