Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute with Pitt County Schools. Substitutes provide a valuable service to our students and schools. Substitutes are employed on an as-needed basis and may decide when and where they would like to work. This works well for people who are pursuing a degree in education, parents with children in school, retirees or anyone looking for flexible employment. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Reliable Transportation Minimum Job Requirements Be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the substitute assignment Assure the health, welfare and safety of all students Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and school property Steps to becoming a Substitute 1. Complete the employment application. If you have a current-active application on file with Pitt County Schools you may have it cross-referenced for substituting by contacting the Substitute Office (252)830-4282. 2. Submit an official transcript (for substitute teaching) of your highest education degree. Thirtytwo (32) semester hours of college credit is required. 3. You will need to submit a minimum of two (2) references forms from someone that has previously supervised you attesting to your personal and professional qualities. If you have been employed by Pitt County Schools less than two years ago, items 2 & 3 may be omitted. 2012-2013 Substitute Pay Scale Certified Substitute Teacher (copy of active NC Teaching License) $91.00 Non Certified Substitute Teacher $70.00 per per day day Substitute Teacher Assistant (Exceptional Children ONLY) Substitute Custodian Substitute Child Nutritionist Substitute Bus Driver Substitute Safety Assistant per per per per per hour hour hour hour hour $ 8.75 $ 8.75 $ 8.75 $12.28 $11.00 Once Your Application is Complete: 1. The applicant is invited by email to a New Substitute Orientation and sent a new hire packet to include I-9, tax forms criminal history authorization release, etc. 2. After the New Substitute Orientation complete applications are reviewed, confidential reference checks and criminal background checks and drug screenings are conducted on applicants. 3. Upon approval of application, completion of orientation, submission of all preemployment forms: the new substitute teacher/teacher assistant will be keyed into AESOP (Automatic Employee Substitute Operator). Upon receiving log in credentials the new substitute teacher may begin substitute teaching. the new substitute non teacher will be placed on a calling list distributed to all administrators, secretaries, management/supervisors(child nutrition, custodian, bus drivers, and safety assistants). Upon being placed on this list the new substitute may begin accepting assignments.
