Welcome to the Olympia School District! We look forward to having your child in our kindergarten
program.
All kindergarten-age students are entitled to attend school for half a day, either in the morning or in the
afternoon. However, the Olympia School District places a high value on opportunities for students to
receive Extended-Day Kindergarten services. Extended-Day Kindergarten classes run on the same school
schedule as classes for grades 1-5.
Each year, it is impossible to predict the number of children who will be attending kindergarten for the
upcoming school year. We want to know your preference; however, it is important that you are aware
that we cannot guarantee our ability to meet your request.
Extended-Day Tuition-Based Kindergarten – ($300.00, OR with qualifying Application for Financial
Assistance No Fee.)
This is a tuition-based program, unless a school qualifies for other funding sources which can be utilized
to pay the designated fee. Please refer to the application for more information and the deposit
requirement. A lottery drawing will be held to fill this program if the number of requests exceeds 23
students. All of the students who are not selected for the Extended-Day program will be placed in a HalfDay program. To assist in the placement of students, parents requesting the Extended-Day program also
needs to indicate a preference for either AM or PM Kindergarten. Placement for the AM and PM slots will
be held after the Extended-Day lottery. Upon receiving notification that your child has been selected for
the Extended-Day Kindergarten program, you will have up to ten (10) days to pay your tuition deposit to
secure their placement.
Half-Day Kindergarten - The number of Kindergarten classes we have each year is based on our total
number of kindergarten enrollment requests for the Half-Day program. If we have 50 enrollments, we will
then need to form two classes, with one session in the morning and one in the afternoon. If we have 23
enrollments, we may only be able to offer one class. Please indicate your preference for either the morning
or afternoon session.
