RESLIFE FACILITIES JOB DESCRIPTIONS for SUMMER 2014
GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER
(4 FOR FORT ETHAN ALLEN, 3 FOR UVM CAMPUS)
Job duties include cleaning, and completion of minor repairs in common areas including furniture and replacement of
appliances. Also, replacement of suspended ceiling tiles, replacement of glue on vinyl baseboards, replacement of
hardware, cleaning of dryer vents, and some screen replacement and repair. Work shifts for maintenance at Fort Ethan
Allen: 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Work shifts for maintenance on UVM campus:
6:00 a.m.--2:30 p.m.  You must have your own transportation to Fort Ethan Allen Housing.
Minimum qualifications: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. minimum. This job requires basic carpentry skills using small hand
tools. Must be highly motivated and be able to work independently with minimum supervision. Valid driver’s license
preferred.
PAINTER (12 POSITIONS)
Job duties include painting interior surfaces in residence halls preceded by preparing and repairing surfaces, covering
adjacent not-to-be-painted surfaces, masking, spackling holes, removing switch plates, etc., prior to painting. After
painting, clean up work site, and clean brushes and paint tools. Work shift for Residential Life painters is 6:00 a.m.-2:30
p.m. Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Minimum qualifications: Ability to learn required painting skills and procedures, work well with others in a team setting,
follow verbal and/or written directives, be able to lift 60 lbs. and work from an 8-foot ladder. Must be willing and able to
work occasional overtime as needed with little advance notice.
MOVER (4 POSITIONS)
Job duties include assisting the Residential Life Department movers with day-to-day activities of moving furniture, office
equipment and mattresses; load and unload items into and from moving truck and deliver items to student rooms,
common areas, and offices often times without the availability of an elevator. Also, setup and breakdown of student
rooms in preparation of cleaning and/or occupancy. Work shifts for Residential Life Movers are 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Minimum qualifications: Physical ability to perform moving task including lifting up to 75 lbs., carrying heavy items up
and down stairs, and ability to use moving equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, and desk movers. Must be reliable
and punctual, able to follow verbal and/or written directives and work well with others. Must be willing and able to work
occasional overtime as needed with little advance notice.
 Please Note: Begin date is Saturday, May 10. Hiring will be based on being able to start on the date specified.

SALARIES:
Maintenance/Painters: $9.25 per hour
Movers: $9.75 per hour
