No matter people are attending schools or having jobs, we all categorized by this society.
Groups bring us more than it takes from us. “The fact is that we all live our lives in groups—the
family, work groups, social, religious and political groups.”(Doris group mind) According to Doris
, it’s really dangerous to always think as a group that people might just forget their own
opinions as an individual. As for me, people sometimes need to be grouped in order to find
one’s own spot. I love music and I love to find people just like me that we can have things in
common to talk about; I grow up with my family, and it’s my family whom took care of me
offering me love, food and housing that I wouldn’t be starving. “Group idea” is not a bad thing
because people all need to be around and needed, no one wants to be left out.
People can even put their ideas into their groups to make it better. We don’t need to repeat
what others said if we disagree. Group for me is more like a place that I can share my ideas and
gain some fresh new ideas from others. We don’t always have to agree but it’s good to just
listen and support them. No one can be exactly the same.
However, what if we got effected by the things we used to disagree or things that are “bad”?
What if the group brought us some “trends” that are negative? “There are indeed glorious
individualists who stubbornly insist on telling the truth as they see it, but most give in to the
majority opinion, obey the atmosphere” ( Doris Group minds) Doris thinks we will be effected
and finally give in to the majority and she thinks it’s bad. It’s hard to admit but the “popular”
trend which is the trend that majority of people would agree do affect the human race and our
history. Back in ancient china people think “fat” or” over-weighted” is a express of beauty. The
famous queen “lady yang” weighted almost 200 pounds and she still counts into one of the
most beautiful woman in Chinese history. However, nowadays thinner is better, if lady yang
born hundreds years later, she might not be able to count into a beauty no more. We can’t
deny the popular trend created by the majority, but luckily this society is becoming more and
more diverse, people nowadays can accept a difference. Thus if ones do believe certain things,
if they have a such strong will , they should insist no matter what. People need to fit into this
society in the ways that don’t really matter to them, people also need to have the wisdom to
keep the things that are important to them and ignore other objections , It’s good and
important to have a principle.
In the end, I want to argue there are many things in the world do not have a clear definition of
good or bad, right or wrong. We can’t say someone who likes art are better than those don’t, or
people who plays sports are better than those prefer more stay at home reading. While Albert
Einstein is enjoying exploring the universe, folks like me are having fun by just watching a girls
drama. Start form different views people might see this world totally different and that’s the
thing we are going to spend a life time to understand and accept.
