Description:
Ms. Dee McKiernan
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the main psychological disorders commonly encountered in clinical practice. The focus is on clinical description, etiology, and the best practice treatment modality for each psychological disorder. This module focuses mainly on issues pertaining to adult mental health.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to
1.
Show an understanding of the key concepts, theories and methods pertaining to this field.
2.
Display a working knowledge of the key terms used.
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of various psychological disorders and identify the diagnostic criteria for a range of disorders.
4.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the professional schemas used in the assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders.
5.
Show a familiarity with the treatment methods used for specific disorders and the relevant empirical evidence for their effectiveness .
