You should allow 2-3 weeks in your schedule for recovery. It will take approximately that time for you to feel comfortable enough to go about you daily routine. During this time you will need to be free from social and professional commitments. 2. Two weeks before surgery you will need to discontinue Aspirin, NSAIDS, Vitamin E, all herbal medications and Nicotine in any form. (Please refer to the list of Medications to Avoid Prior to Surgery.) Certain antidepressants, migraine medications and medications for diabetes may also need to be stopped prior to the day of surgery. If you are on any of these medications please discuss it with your physician. 3. You may have nothing to eat or drink after midnight on the night before your surgery. This includes avoiding candy, mints, gum and smoking. 4. Make sure you eat a well-balanced meal for dinner and get plenty of sleep the night before your surgery. 5. The surgery center should call you the day before your surgery to let you know what time to be there. If they do not call please contact our office at (801)375-7673. DAY OF SURGERY: 1. You should take the following medications with a sip of water the morning of your procedure._________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ 2. If you are diabetic, do not take any of your diabetic medications on the morning of your surgery. Your blood sugar will be checked when you arrive and medication administered as needed. 3. Wear comfortable clothing. A top that buttons down the front is easiest to put on after the procedure. Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery 4. Your skin should be free of make-up and moisturizers. All nail polish, artificial nails and piercings should be removed. Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home or with a relative or friend. 5. All menstruating women will be asked for a urine specimen on the morning of surgery for a pregnancy test. AFTER SURGERY: 1. You will be given a garment to wear after your procedure. You should wear this night and day, except to shower, for the first three weeks. 2. Please change any bandages or dressings daily. Only use them if you need them to protect clothing from drainage. Bandages are optional once incisions are comfortable. 3. It is normal to experience swelling and bruising in the area of liposuction. Other normal findings are: Areas of numbness on the skin for up to six months. A cherry colored drainage from incisions during the first few days. Redness of surgical scars about 3-6 months after surgery, this will slowly fade. Please call your doctor’s office at the first sign of: Excessive (severe) pain associated with pressure and enlargement of the abdomen Redness, drainage, or odor from the incision(s) or drains. Fever or chills Shortness of breath 4. Calf Pain Oxygen saturation under 90% If you are not able to reach the office for any reason and have any of these symptoms go to the nearest emergency room 5. It is extremely important not to smoke or have any form of nicotine for a minimum 4 weeks after surgery. Smoking may cause delayed healing and increases your risk of postoperative complications. Also, continue to avoid Vitamin E, and other herbal medications for one week after surgery. 6. You may resume light activity like walking and lifting up to 5 pounds within the first week after surgery. Check with Dr. Rose before resuming any strenuous activity such as biking, swimming, aerobics, or weightlifting (usually 4-6 weeks). Also, when returning to more exercise, start slowly and gradually work up to your daily routine. Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery 7. You may drive after you discontinue your narcotic pain medication and when you are comfortable with your mobility. 8. Usually there are no sutures to be removed.
