TEST DATES: Fall Test, November 2, 2014
Spring Test February 1, 2015
Written portion of test begins at 1:00 p.m. A maximum of three hours is allowed for completion of the test.
Ear Training portion begins as soon as all registered students have arrived.
Registration DEADLINE: OCTOBER 15, 2014 for Fall Test
(Not postmark dates!)
JANUARY 14, 2015 for Spring Test (Chairman must have list on this date)
LOCATION: Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth.
1. All students who take a Theory Test for State grading must be registered Student Affiliate members.
2. Send the typed list and check to June Leondar, FWMTA Theory Chairman. Provide this information for each
student you register: Name (as on SA Registration), School grade, Level of test taking.
Please include your name, mailing address, email address and telephone number. Form provided next page.
3. FEE is $10.00 per student. This covers the cost of State-grading and medal earned. Fees are due at time of
registration. Make one check payable to FWMTA-SA.
4. TEACHERS registering students for testing are required to help administer tests. Assignment
is arranged by Chairman after receipt of registration forms.
5. Teachers presenting students for testing will be chairmen in test level rooms where they do not have
students. No teacher may administer the tests to his/her own group of students, although he/she may
participate in the administration of tests to an Association's group of students.
6. Blank staff paper and keyboard pictures are provided for students during testing.
7. MEDALS are awarded to students scoring 90 or above on a test taken at his/her grade level and
state-graded.
8. Registration deadlines must be met! No late registrations or telephone registrations will be
accepted. List with checks must be mailed so that it reaches Chairman by deadline. Move the blank
form on next page to your desktop, type in the names, copy and mail with check to chairman.
9. MAKE-UP tests for student with legitimate schedule conflicts or sudden illness will be held:
Fall Test Period: Monday, November 3, 2014 Spring Test Period: Monday. Feb. 2, 2015

10. Teachers are urged to review THEORY program outlined in the State Student Affiliate
Handbook. Theory concepts covered in the TMTA-SA theory tests are outlined in 12 levels in the
Theory Syllabus published by TEXAS MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION. Student glossaries
and dictionaries are also available .

All students who register for Theory testing must have paid STUDENT AFFILIATE dues for this year.
Make sure the grade level and spelling of the student's name on your typed list for theory corresponds
with your SA list.
About TMTA Music Theory Testing program
Your Texas MTA dues support the development of this Music Theory testing program. It is a result of many years of contribution
by many Texas teachers. The testing is done in each Local Association by cooperative effort of all teachers who enroll students
for testing. The test includes not only written essay type questions but also “sound” questions called ear-training.
The program includes general music theory concepts from level one to twelve. Tests are given on two dates during the year. Tests
are graded by State-appointed graders. Students who score 90 or above on a test at their school grade level receive medals.
These are resources for preparing students for the Test.

Order from State office online from www.tmta.org. Click on Forms for the order form. Copies of tests from previous year
are available on the TMTA website also . On the website, click on Students and menu comes up with past year's tests and
ear training samples. You may print out copies to use as work sheets for students. The Audio files are also on this web site.
