The Associate Board of Chicago is the American Heart Association’s (AHA) network of young professionals in Metro Chicago. Associate Board members volunteer their time and talent to support the programs and activities of the AHA that help us create a healthier world, free of heart disease and stroke.

When you join the Associate Board you have the opportunity to contribute to the AHA’s mission, make a difference in the community and network with other like-minded individuals who share your passion for the AHA. The Associate Board of Chicago will officially launch in January 2013.

Mission

IMAGINE a world FREE of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This is our mission. And just like everyone else we have families and friends we care about. We are passionate about what we do, and this is why we are committed to leading real, lasting change. Our research supports what we do. And because of this knowledge, we have made it our promise to have an extraordinary impact on your life by empowering you and your loved ones to save lives, live healthier and enjoy more peace of mind about cardiovascular health.

Membership Requirements & Responsibilities

The following are the minimum requirements for membership on the Associate Board:

1.

Serve as a community ambassador for the American Heart Association’s mission, program and awareness activities.

2.

Attend quarterly board meetings (February, May, September & November).

3.

Participate in at least two Associate Board supported mission related events/activities during the calendar year (January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014).

4.

Volunteer or lead at least one Associate Board event/activity during the calendar year (January

1, 2014 – December 31, 2014).

5.

Purchase or sell a minimum of two tickets to the Chicago Heart Ball Crash the Ball

6.

Create and lead as team captain for Team ABC Heart Walk

7.

Serve on a minimum of one Associate Board sub-committee (Membership, Communications,

Education/Awareness, Social)

8.

Commit to an overall minimum fundraising goal of $500 during the calendar year through any of the following activities:

Chicago Heart Ball, Go Red For Women or Heart Walk table or sponsorship sales

Silent/Live Auction item procurement for the Chicago Heart Ball or Go Red For Women

Individual purchase of Chicago Heart Ball Crash the Ball tickets

Form a Heart Walk Community Team or Friends/Family Team

Fundraising through the Heart Walk (Online or Walker Team)

Host a third party event

Personal donation (cash or check)

SUB COMMITTEES

Outlined below are the four sub-committees of the American Heart Association’s Associate Board of

Chicago. Each sub-committee will consist of one Vice Chair.

Membership:

Recruit new members to join the Associate Board of Chicago

Review applications for incoming members

Welcome, train and mentor new members

Communications:

Update board members on upcoming events, meetings and other activities

Use social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc…) to communicate, promote and bring awareness to Associate Board activities and events.

Promote the Associate Board’s activities in the community (

placing a community calendar listing, company newsletter listing, pitching stories to media or securing PSAs).

Education/Awareness:

Educate and raise awareness for heart disease and stroke in our community

Join the “You’re the Cure” network - the advocacy arm of the AHA

Support the “My Heart. My Life.” initiative for healthier communities

Plan and execute an Educational Lunch & Learn Session for Associate Board Members

Social Events:

Develop strategies for recruiting volunteers for the Chicago Heart Ball, Go Red For Women Event and the Chicago Heart Walk

Secure auction donations for the Chicago Heart Ball or the Go Red For Women Event (members of other sub-committees are also invited to participate in securing auction items)

Research opportunities for social activities and membership recruitment

Secure donated opportunities for social activities/events

Volunteer and/or attend AHA events
