How appropriate are the subject and contents for teaching in web? What advantages and challenges does the web implementation bring to studying this subject? I’m a bit confused as the course is mostly for students in Helsinki university and university of Eastern Finland. If so, some of the students will meet each other I suppose, so the course is in fact not only an online course. I think you should take to account and take advantage of the fact that the students probably already know quite well each other inside the two universities, but not between them. That might affect to the social behavior of the students, for example so that students mostly comment on their friends’ blogs. Otherwise I like the idea, I think it might be fun for students to start in this way their own food blog, if they already don’t have one. I’d like to know more about what you mean by food culture, how deeply you go to the different cultures behind the food? Asia and Africa for example have a huge amount of different cultures inside them. How are the learning goals described? They are quite clearly disposed in the script. The first goal is anyway a bit vague for me as I said, what means to “Define the fundamentals of global cuisines and cultures”? How would you evaluate the studying methods in the course? Do they support gaining the learning goals? Justify. The role of individual and collaborative learning is a bit unclear, as my team members have already commented. They seem to have only one group work on the second week, but I think it could be fruitful to use more collaboration as there are students living and studying in same cities. Cooking, searching information and thinking about cultures is always more fun together, and in collaboration there is also the possibility to avoid stereotypes made from different cultures. Unfortunately in homogenous (read Finnish in this context) groups there is also the possibility to make the stereotypes more strong. How coherent are evaluation methods with the aims and studying methods of the course? In my opinion it’s always somehow discouraging to receive only pass/fail evaluation, and even more if the course has been something creative like this might be. Some written feedback to blogs from the teacher too could for example be great, maybe you were thinking about that but I just didn’t understand it! Will the evaluation be mostly about how well they have found different recipes etc. or about how their attitudes/knowledge toward different cultures have changed? Is tutor's role defined appropriately? I was wondering will one teacher make all the videos, or will there be original people from different countries? And will the teacher be also physically there if needed (if she/he is for example a teacher in Helsinki university)? Otherwise I think the tutor’s role was clear. What are good sides of this pedagogical script? Which parts need further consideration? I think I already treated the parts that need further consideration for my point of view so to the good sides! The idea is great and has the possibility to be not only fun and something different but also really giving new ideas of other cultures. I think food is something that connects everybody, an easy way to face differences. But making food and enjoying it is a social event, so I’d love to have more of that in the course! The script itself was clear and comfortable to read, good job!
