At the request of some interested parishioners,
here is what it costs to keep us operating monthly:
We need on average $33,000.00 ($38,000 in
winter) to pay utilities, salaries, assessments (both
city and diocesan), and to maintain the facilities..
(Our Christmas and Easter collections combined
help pay the enormous annual insurance premium.)
Currently, we receive on average $37,000.00 from
your giving at Mass, rents, and that Parish Expense
Envelope. This $37,000 does not include
designated income for the Hunger or Hispanic
Programs, or from the Capital Campaign, Fr. Hilkert
Fund, or our one and only investment account.
DIOCESAN PATRONAL FEAST The Feast Day
of the Diocese is December 27, the
Feast of St. John the Evangelist. A
prayerful and festive service is
held at our Cathedral. You are
invited to join Bishop Lennon at St.
John the Evangelist Cathedral in
Cleveland for the 12 Noon Mass or
Solemn Evening Prayer at 7:00 P.M. that Friday.

Clarence Bechter Journal
Clarence Bechter who climbed for
our Organ Fund this past August

mountain climbs this past
summer. If anyone would like a
good read please e-mail him to
receive a copy. (b515490@aol.com)

Dear Parishioners,
This week Deacon Ray will lead us in
the Advent Lessons and Carols on Tuesday,
Dec. 17 at 6:30 P.M. in St. Mary church (750 S.
Main).
Along with Cindy Badran, church
organist, they prepared a beautiful program
with Hand Bells, Spanish Choir, and
congregational singing and Bible readings. All
are welcome to come, pray, and sing as we
prepare to celebrate the Lord’s Nativity at
Christmas and wait for His second coming.
Posadas (Inns) begin this week as well.
All are welcome to review the schedule and
participate on consecutive nights by going to
one another’s home and reenacting St. Luke’s
telling of Mary and Joseph’s search for an Inn
to lodge in for the night.
At the 9:30 A.M. Mass we celebrate the
Rite of Acceptance with 9 people attending the
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
With the support of their sponsors, they will be
welcomed into the Catechumenate; a period of
intense formation in the Christian Faith within
the Catholic Church. Please pray for them.
Don’t forget your gift for the Bethlehem
Giving Trees. Due today! Bring it to the priest
sacristy – left of the sanctuary.
Church envelope distribution is going
well. Pick up your complete box for 2014 in the
Baptistery before or after Mass. If you use a
check for your sacrifice – please get the box of
envelopes anyway. You’ll then know about
any special collections, and it’ll help to tally
your donations accurately.
News this week on the school building:
The asbestos has been removed. The building
will be razed the first week of 2014. Every bit
of the building – the stones, bricks, and even
the nails – will be salvaged and recycled.
Some have asked for one of those
stones – get it while YOU can. It will be up to
you to remove it and cart it out of here. The
weight for one is estimated at ½ ton. Sorry, we
cannot be responsible for injuries or damages.
Speaking of recycling – St. Mary School
(formerly St. Bernard-St. Mary School) won 1st
Place in Recycling. It recycled the most paper,
cardboard, etc among all elementary schools in
Summit County served by 1-2-3 Disposals.
Congrats to the School! And a huge
THANKS to parishioners here at St. Bernard
who support their paper recycling drive. The
school will receive a $250 award for school
supplies and a Pizza Party for all the students.
Parishioners of St. Bernard are invited
to join the 193 children and their parents for the
Christmas Performance of “Hark, the Angel
sang off-key” this Thursday evening at 7:00pm.
The school is going strong because of your
support to a faith-based elementary education.
PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER this is
the week of the Summit Choral Society
Concerts – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The
8:00 P.M. Sunday Mass will be held in St. Mary
church on S. Main at 8:00 P.M. Dec. 22.
Finally, you never know what each day
will bring! This week we received a check in
the mail for the Organ Fund in the amount of
$100,000. Why? Because someone read
about it here in the bulletin. Let us rejoice in
the Lord and give Him thanks as we pray for
our many generous benefactors who will be
identified and acknowledged as we climb
higher to our goal.
Rejoice always, Fr. Dan
