Follow us on our school Website and Twitter. Newsletter 5th October 2015. PARK BROW COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL Happy Respect Pride Dear Parent/Carer What a busy start we have had to the year. It has been lovely speaking to you all on the playground in the morning and to welcome the children first thing in the morning. Miss Swinburn (Deputy Headteacher) and I will continue to do this throughout the year. Our new staff Miss Barnes, Mr James (Deputy Headteacher), Mrs Kelly and Miss Ball have been busy getting to know the children and settling into our school routines. As you know Miss Murphy and Mrs Hall retired in July, they have been keeping in touch and are keeping themselves busy. We have had some new additions to our Park Brow family; Ms Casey has had a little boy ‘Patrick’ and Ms Cheetham also had a little boy ‘Benjamin,’ we are hoping Mrs Power has a girl! Caring Potential Park Brow shows how ‘caring’ they are through their fundraising activities this term. Thank you to all the children and parents who donated cakes for our Macmillan Coffee Morning. We were particularly impressed with the effort made to ensure the cakes were personalised with our five special words; ‘caring,’ ‘potential,’ ‘pride,’ ‘happy’ and ‘respect.’ We made a grand total of £700. Please read the newsletter carefully as there are some important dates you will need to put in your calendar. Thank you, for your continued support Ms V Roberts. Beth Tweddle visits Park Brow School. Olympic Gymnastic and Dancing on Ice star Beth Tweddle came to visit the children last week. Her message was clear; with determination, hard work and a good work ethic dreams can come true! She spoke to the children about her aspirations to become a Gymnast from an early age and how she had worked and trained hard to become the best she could. Beth now runs her own Gymnastics business and following requests by the children in their termly questionnaire we sought her support to develop staff’s confidence to teach Gymnastics in lessons and to provide an afterschool Gymnastics Club for the children. The children and staff are enjoying this fantastic opportunity. Mr Radcliffe also took part in The Great North Run raising funds for CAFOD. We all held our own fun run in school to help Mr Radcliffe reach his target. We raised £ 71. Mr Radcliffe spoke to the children about his training regime and determination to not give up in assembly. YEAR 1 LEARN ALL ABOUT SUPER HEROES. Year 1 are really enjoying their exciting topic on Super Heroes. Last week they had a visit from some real life heroes who told the children all about their roles. The children got to try on the fire equipment and they also found out about Fire Safety. HALF TERM HOLIDAY CLUB I am really pleased to be able to inform you that we will be holding this half term holiday clubs for The Kirkby Collaborative at Park Brow School. Our purpose built facilities allow the use of the community section of the school (including the hall) without affecting the school. The club is coordinated and run by The Knowsley Extended Schools Team. Sessions run from 10am – 3pm. Activities vary from Art to a wide variety of sporting activities. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity leaflets are available at the Front Office. Spaces are limited and therefore a quick response would be advisable. Pupils in receipt of free school meals may access pupil premium funding. Please contact Ms Roberts. RECEPTION FUN. LEARNING ABOUT ‘DEMOCRACY’ Our Reception children enjoyed a visit from ‘Everton In The Community.’ They had a wonderful time keeping fit, developing their balance, listening skills and agility. The coaches praised the children’s enthusiasm and sense of fun. Well done Reception Class. During our whole school SEAL lessons (Social, Emotional Aspects of Learning) the children have been finding out the meaning of Democracy. Over the last three weeks the children have been preparing speeches, canvassing and voting for their school council members. We have also been very lucky to be invited to the Mayor’s Office in Knowsley for lunch and to find out more about our Local Council. The children will also visit the Council Offices.
