Smith, Senior Air Safety Investigator, US Department of Transportation SMS, Accident Investigation, and Non-Technical Maintenance Training ABSTRACT The Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) is the US DOT’s official aviation safety training institute. Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on the Federal Aviation Administration’s Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center TSI is a world leader delivering state of the art aviation safety training to government and private industry. The TSI course catalog includes; Safety Management Systems (development and implementation), Human Factors for Aircraft Maintainers, Human Factors in Accident Investigation, Basic & Advanced Aircraft Accident Investigation, Basic Rotorcraft Accident Investigation, and Turbine Engine Accident Investigation. TSI training is effective because we use industry experts as adjunct instructors and staff, leverage emerging training technology and best practices, and employ learning techniques such as scenario based training, Hands on practice exercises and actual implementation exercises, Go beyond theory to application, and teach students “How To” use and employ the information. SMS Scenario based training uses actual organizations to build an SMS and related products. Examples provided. Human Factors for Aircraft Maintainers uses current, meaningful hands on practical exercises to emphasize key learning points. Example provided.
