JOB DESCRIPTION Relate London SE Position: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Contract: 26 hours, fixed term – 9 months Accountable to: The Chair of the Board of Trustees Job purpose: To lead Relate London SE. To be accountable for strategic direction and effective development and management of resources, people and money, as agreed with the Board of Trustees. Responsibilities: 1. Leadership and management Lead the team to build a culture in which client services can develop and thrive: Lead and manage the changes that are necessary, to ensure the organisation’s long-term sustainability and high quality counselling services in all boroughs that fall within its remit; Ensure that Relate London SE has in place the necessary organisational structure, people and skills to enable it to meet its strategic objectives; Manage staff performance in line with the strategic and individual work plans; Recruit, induct, manage and develop staff to reach their potential; Ensure that supervision and development opportunities are provided for all paid staff and volunteers; Working with the Treasurer, ensure that an annual budget is presented to the Board of Trustees and is regularly monitored; Oversee the management of the Centre’s finances within budget and report regularly on this to the Board; Ensure appropriate premises are secured to support smooth delivery of Relate services; Ensure that the organisation has in place appropriate HR and employment policies and codes of practice, including appraisal, supervision, health and safety and diversity and inclusion, in accordance with current legislation and good practice. Income generation Take a lead on income generation including seeking out new opportunities/cultivating support to diversify income streams and expand services; Ensure there is an income generation/fundraising strategy to increase resilience and to meet agreed targets; Develop and exploit potential new income streams and partnership opportunities; 3. Governance Fulfil the role of Company Secretary and, work with the Chair to enable the Board to fulfill its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance and strategic leadership of the organisation; Develop and regularly review the strategic plan in line with contextual changes and opportunities, locally, regionally and nationally; Monitor and regularly report to the Board progress on annual plans, targets, income generation, performance measures and risk management; Review and develop policy and service improvement/expansion proposals for Board discussion and decision; Prepare the annual report; Ensure that the annual calendar of Board meetings is established and kept up to date and that trustee meetings are well serviced and conducted; Contribute to Trustee recruitment, selection and induction; Ensure that the Centre complies with the Relate Federation membership agreement. 4. Profile and reputation Create and oversee implementation of a marketing, and external communications strategy for the Centre; Seek opportunities to promote the services of Relate and enhance its profile and reputation locally by developing networks and media links, partnerships and influencing stakeholders; Ensure that internal communication is effective across the staff and board of trustees; Promote the Centre’s role as a member of the Relate Federation through contact with key personnel at Relate Central Office and by representing the Centre at national and regional meetings and workshops. May 2015 Terms and Conditions Base: Bromley and/or Croydon depending on the demands of the post. Travel between the two main offices in Bromley and Croydon and outreach sites in Purley, Wimbledon and other London boroughs within the Centre’s remit will be required according to the demands of the post. Flexible working will be required which will involve occasional evening and weekend work. Salary: £36,500p.a. Hours: 26 hours per week Contract: Fixed term, 9 months initially Annual Leave entitlement: 20 days plus Bank Holidays and discretionary days over the Christmas period during office closure. Probationary Period: 3 months Notice period: 1 month May 2015 Person Specification Chief Executive – Relate London SE Applicants for this post must be able to demonstrate that they have the following skills, abilities and experience required for the post. Essential Proven management experience and/or management qualification. Experience of setting and managing budgets. Experience of strategic business development and income generation. Demonstrable experience of project/contract management in a service organisation. Experience of providing management information to senior colleagues and Trustees. Excellent knowledge of HR issues and experience of staff management, including recruitment, selection and managing staff performance and development. Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills. The ability to build effective teams; to lead, motivate and support a team of paid and voluntary staff, and manage teams across a range of locations. Good IT skills including competence in Microsoft Office programmes and experience of managing a computerised accounting system. The ability to effectively manage the conflicting demands of a varied workload. Awareness of, and sensitivity to, equal opportunity issues. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Experience of being responsible for health and safety within an organisation. Desirable Commitment to the vision and work of Relate and an understanding of the importance of relationship support. Understanding of the current issues facing voluntary organisations. Familiar with Quickbooks or other accounting software. Experience in fundraising and the preparation and submission of grant funding applications. Knowledge of community development and local networks. Knowledge of PQASSO or similar quality assurance system. Marketing experience. A commitment to building effective partnerships. Knowledge or experience of charity retail. May 2015
