The NKBA Awards “Excellence in Education” Certificates to
Top Schools
Alexandria Technical & Community College in Alexandria, MN named “NKBA
College of the Year 2013”
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (October 16, 2014) — The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA)
has awarded “2013 Excellence in Education” certificates to NKBA-accredited schools that have
demonstrated the highest standards of kitchen and bath instruction. As part of an annual
requirement for accreditation, each school submitted two student-designed kitchen projects,
which followed the requirements of the NKBA Student Design Competition, titled Enchanted
Makeovers.
Student work samples included a floor plan, elevation, construction plan, and mechanical plan.
The kitchen work samples were assessed by an NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer, Certified Bath
Designer (CKD, CBD) for compliance with the NKBA Planning Guidelines and adherence to NKBA
Graphic and Presentation Standards.
The top entries from among all the schools that submitted student projects for 2013 were
announced during the NKBA’s Department of College and Student Engagement’s Fall Webinar
for Educators, held September 12, 2014. This year, the NKBA recognized seventeen schools for

achieving excellence in kitchen design. These schools met the NKBA’s challenging goal of
earning average scores of at least 90 out of a possible 100 on the projects designed by their
students.
Alexandria Technical & Community College in
Alexandria, MN was named the “NKBA College of
the Year 2013” for the highest combined average
score. A beautiful glass-engraved trophy, a
certificate of achievement, and a congratulatory
letter were sent to Betty L. Ravnik, CMKBD, NKBA

design program. Alexandria Technical &
Community College is a two-year program (85
credits) which culminates into an A.A.S. Interior
Design/Kitchen Bath Track.

Each of this year’s top seventeen schools, along with their NKBA Accredited program
coordinators, received a certificate of recognition and a congratulatory letter. The winning
program coordinators also earned the privilege of using the specially designed 2013 Excellence
in Education logo on their interior design-related communications and marketing materials.
