2016 GDOFC Aussie Day Angler’s Ambush Fishing Competition

Three categories – Shore based fishing, boat fishing up to 5.5m and boat fishing over 5.5m

RULES
This competition is a measure only challenge with the combined maximum length of four species of
fish in each fishing category determining the champion anglers.
The $500 major prize will be for the longest “randomly selected” species of fish measured over the
weekend. The selection of the species of fish will be determined at the presentation night. Every
eligible species presented for measuring over the weekend will be entered into the draw.
Fishing times will be from 0600 hours on the 23rd of January to 1500 hours on the 24th of January
inclusive (yes night fishing is allowed).
Fish measuring times will be from 1600 to 1800 hours each day at the clubrooms.
All fish presented for measuring must be at least the legal minimum size as determined by the
Western Australian Fisheries guidelines.
All fish presented for measuring must be whole (not gutted or gilled) and must be in good condition.
Any fish presented in an advance state of decay will be ineligible. Fish cleaning facilities are located
directly in front of the GDOFC club rooms.
Anglers fishing from boats will only be allowed to measure four separate demersal species of fish over
the two days (two demersal species per day)
There will be no limit on the type and size of line class used.
Sharks and rays will not be eligible to be measured.

All teams/individuals MUST log on and off each day with their intentions of where they will be fishing
on that day (for safety reasons only)
If you intend to stay overnight on a boat or night fishing off the shore the club must be contacted to
inform them of your intentions. Competition co-ordinator can be contacted on 0427 778 564.
It is recommended that every skipper utilise the local Sea Rescue radio log on and off service provided
for the area. Channel 16, 72, 81 or 82.
A briefing night will be held on Friday 22nd of January 1830 at the GDOFC club house. At least one crew
member from each boat and all shore based anglers are required to attend. The intent of this briefing
is to reinforce the competition rules, take late nominations and to inform the competitors of the
weather forecast. If there has been a strong wind warning issued for either of the days the
competition may be reclassified as shore based only for the duration of the wind warning.
There will be food and drinks on sale at the Friday briefing, Saturday measuring afternoon and at the
Sunday presentation night.
There will be Lucky Angler prizes/giveaways on ALL NIGHTS (you must be in attendance at club to claim
prizes.)
RISK AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Fishing and activities associated with it involve risks of personal injury, loss and damage and even death. The risks
include but are not limited to the risk of injury from collision, capsizing, falling overboard, being trapped under the
boat after capsize and impact with equipment. Any of these events can also result in death. The risks involved in
this activity are heightened by adverse weather conditions, inadequate training, fatigue, inexperience, failure to
maintain the boat or failure to supply and use the recommended safety equipment.
This warning is given as a risk warning pursuant to Section 5I of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (as amended). Having
been given this risk warning, competitors take part in the event entirely at their own risk. Geraldton & Districts
Offshore Fishing Club, it’s members, partners, sponsors or representatives will not be held liable for damage or
loss of equipment, personal injury or loss of life, however it may occur.
You will be required to acknowledge that all fishing competitors listed on your entry form will be fishing at their own
risk.
You will also be required to supply a land-based alternative contact person and their details in case of emergency.
