SLY PARK BASKETBALL SCHOOL – 2013
E-mail: slypark@gotnet.net

Dear Parents and Players,
Sly Park Basketball School opened in 1982 to provide instruction for 5th through 12th grade players learning the
fundamentals of basketball and developing team skills necessary to be successful players and have successful
seasons. The school is designed to first evaluate and then provide instruction to each player based on ability
and current skill level. A hand written player evaluation will be given to each player at the end of the school,
which will note particular strengths and areas that need improvement.
In the past 30 years, with nearly 13,000 graduates, Sly Park Basketball School has become the most popular
basketball camp in Northern California. For young players wanting to learn the fundamentals, Sly Park is “the”
school to attend this summer.
The following weeks are scheduled for this upcoming summer 2013:



Boys Week #1
Boys Week #2
Girls Week
Monday, June 17–Saturday, June 22 (6 days/5 nights – tuition starting at $520)
Monday, June 24–Saturday, June 29 (6 days/5 nights – tuition starting at $520)
Tuesday, July 9–Saturday, July 13 (5 days/4 nights – tuition starting at $420)
School features include: a beautiful indoor gym, daily instruction on all basketball fundamentals, 1 staff member for
every 7 players, all players play equal time in each game, reversible school micro mesh jersey, a t-shirt, a hand
written player evaluation, an 8 X 10 color camp picture, a certificate of participation, 1 on 1, 3 on 3, 5 on 5, Free
Throw, Hot Shot, Knockout, numerous individual and team awards, and an inspirational awards ceremony on the
last day of camp! The school facilities also include four full outdoor courts, spotless rooms that sleep six
teammates or friends, completely upgraded showers, sinks, and toilets in each dorm. The food is outstanding, with
a menu that includes nutritious/balanced meals, generous portions, and served in an air conditioned dining hall.
The enrollment is limited to only 150 total players each session. Players are divided into three divisions based on
ability and skill level. There are 50 players maximum in each division. The school is directed by Steve Williams
(Jesuit HS ‘68 – Univ. San Francisco ‘72 – Grant HS Boys Varsity Coach 1979-90 – Roseville Joint Union High
School District ’90-present). Coach Williams is known throughout Northern California as an outstanding teacher of
the fundamentals of basketball and has a tremendous amount of experience in directing clinics and leading camps
for young players. Additional coaches and counselors will be selected for their “positive” attitudes and for being
“positive” role-models to the players attending.
Basketball has become very competitive in our area for players at every level. I guarantee a solid foundation for
each player attending, to gain an advantage for the upcoming season. We will again incorporate the Five-Out,
Read & React Offense as the school 5 on 5 Offense this summer (teaching players at every level “how” to play as
opposed to teaching them “a” play) and introducing other offensive fundamentals geared to improving individual
and team offensive skills for every player attending. Individual and team Man-to-Man Defensive Principles will
be taught and emphasized to prepare players for the next level.
Finally, thank you for passing the enclosed brochures on to players and families looking for an overnight
basketball camp this summer! Our school is committed to every player/family wishing to attend a week at “the
Park”. Families needing help with the tuition simply need to call or email and I will go to work to make it
happen for every family. Our motto and our focus will continue to be “Whatever it takes” and “Nobody
gets left out” to provide the best week of each player’s summer! Please feel free to contact me if you have
any questions or need any additional information. Thank you for all of your support over all of these years – let’s
keep it going!
Sincerely,
Coach Williams
