Conversion, Call, and Family
Having grown up in the South and at church every time the doors were open,
at seven years old, I had already heard the gospel more times than I could
count, but by God’s grace, I was finally convicted of my sins. God made
clear that Jesus was my only hope for salvation and a relationship with Him,
so I repented and believed. Jesus graciously saved me from sin and death,
and following Christ has been an amazing journey ever since!
At twelve years old, my faith was tested immensely when I was diagnosed
with cancer. God used that period of suffering in my life to draw me
incredibly close to Him. He led me to Philippians 1:21 – “To live is Christ
and to die is gain.” My life was to be spent for His glory above all else. Over
time, God made clear that I was called to spend my life for him through
ministry. From that point forward, God opened many incredible opportunities for serving Him, His church,
and the world.
While serving at the Gallery Church in NYC during the summer of 2011, I met Becca Clare Woolum, who
was serving on mission with Campus Crusade for Christ. God quickly began to knit our hearts together
through our mutual love for Jesus and reaching those who don’t know Him. On June 1, 2013, God united us
in marriage, and serving God together has been the greatest and most joyful journey of our lives. Recently, we
just received news that our journey is going to get even more exciting. We will be having our first child on
June 20th of next year!
Throughout my life, God has instilled within me a passion for the local church. He has grown within me an
ever increasing desire to help lead churches that have plateaued or declined back to growth and effectiveness
on mission. For this reason, I’m focusing my PhD studies on church revitalization. My greatest desire is to
show the world the life-giving power of the Gospel through revived and empowered churches.
