June 27, 2011—During May and June, awards ceremonies were held across the state as Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska recognized the 519 girls who earned the prestigious Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in 2010-2011. These distinguished honors are for girls who have met the rigorous requirements for a project, the purpose of which is to give back to the community. Using their leadership skills, drive and dedication, these Nebraska Girl Scouts have joined the ranks of generations of young women who made a difference in their communities and earned a Girl Scout Girl Award for their efforts. Your girls’/troop/service unit project information here. This year’s Spirit of Nebraska Girl Award projects collectively represent more than 15, 540 hours of community service throughout the state. The five Girl Scout Awards ceremonies were held in Omaha, Ogallala, Columbus, Lincoln and Grand Island. About the Bronze Award (20 hours required community service) The Girl Scout Bronze Award is a leadership adventure and the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior (girls grades 4-5) can achieve. As girls plan and complete their project, they develop more confidence, meet new people and have the kind of fun that happens when Girl Scouts work together to make a difference. About the Silver Award (50 hours required community service) This award is for girls who do a project in their neighborhood or school that makes a change for the better. Going for the Silver Award—the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette (girls grades 6-8) can earn—gives girls the chance to show that they are leaders who are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving your community. About the Gold Award (80 hours required community service) The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor that a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador (girls grades 9-12) can achieve. When girls earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, they uphold standards of excellence. These standards set a high benchmark for everything they do as they think deeply, explore opportunities and challenge themselves on the journey to this pinnacle of their Girl Scout Leadership Experience. During the Gold Award process, girls develop as leaders in their communities, creating a lasting impact on the lives of others. ### About Girl Scouts For nearly 100 years (1912-2012), Girl Scouts has been creating leadership programs for young women throughout the country and across the globe.
