5 . STREET STOCKS
5.1 SANCTIONING
5.1.1 MVS officials will resolve any disputes. All drivers must be a member of MVS to compete in this division. GENERAL
RULES FOUND IN SECTION ONE OF THE MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY RULEBOOK MUST ALSO BE MET TO
COMPETE IN ANY CLASS AT MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
5.2 ELIGIBLE MODELS
5.2.1 Any 1970 through 1988 GM or Ford with a factory wheelbase of not less than 108 inches allowed. 1970 through
1988 Chrysler products allowed with minimum 115” wheelbase. No factory performance type cars allowed, including but
not limited to Barracudas, Challengers, Chargers, or Javelins. No T-tops, sun-roofs, convertibles, jeeps, or trucks allowed.
El Camino and other body styles allowed with Chief Steward approval.
5.2.2 CARS MUST REMAIN STRICTLY STOCK. The use of the word STOCK in these rules refers to unaltered parts as
manufactured by the manufacturer for the car being run.
5.3 BODY AND APPEARANCE
5.3.2 No cutting, chopping, channeling, or shortening allowed. Must be stock. No holes in the hood. Body sheet metal &
hood must be in place at all times.
5.3.3 Complete bumper-to-bumper steel body must be maintained.
5.3.4 The stock steel unaltered floor pan, firewalls. No sectioning, channeling, or chopping.
5.3.5 Cars must have complete stock bumper. No extra bracing of any kind. Each bumper must have two straps. or safety
chains to prevent it from falling off. Straps must be installed on front and rear bumper to prevent cars from hooking.
5.3.7 Front firewall must be sealed. A complete firewall must seal the trunk area from the driver’s compartment.
5.3.9 Trimming of wheel wells to the circumference of tire is allowed, but official’s discretion may assess lap penalty for
extreme cutting.
5.3.10 Stock seat and bracket or Aluminum racing seats allowed, must be properly attached to roll cage. Seat must be
mounted in straight-ahead position. Racing seat belts and shoulder harness required.
5.3.11 Any sharp protruding objects on car and/or in driver’s compartment must be removed, or moved.
5.3.12 The seam of the driver’s door must be welded, and/or double chained, or bolted shut. Driver will be disqualified if
door comes open. A flush, securely mounted exterior driver’s door protection plate is permitted on all cars, and required on
cars not running full four-point roll cage.
5.3.13 Driver’s door may be gutted for roll bar clearance. Door sheet metal may be removed for roll bar clearance. Drivers
door bars must be plated with 1/8” min steel from A post to B post.
5.3.14 Complete dash assembly must remain in car, unless removed for installation of four-point cage.
5.3.15 No spoilers allowed unless stock. If stock spoiler is ran a 50# penalty will apply
5.4 WINDSHIELD
5.4.1 All glass must be removed except for front windshield. All other glass must be completely removed.
5.4.2 No screens or plastic, 1/8" lexan may be used for front windshield if used 3 dash supports minimum 1” square tube
by .065 wall must be used to stop tires from entering the drivers cockpit.
5.4.3 Cracked windshields must be taped, and may not block vision. Any windshield that blocks vision must be
replaced. No rear windows side lexan OK.
5.5 ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS
5.5.1 BASIC INSTRUCTIONS: DON’T DO ANYTHING TO THE ENGINE
5.5.2 Must mount in stock location, in stock mounts.
5.5.3 Engine must be stock for year and model. No after market racing parts.
5.5.4 Stock stroke only. No machining, grinding etc. of any kind. Maximum bore .040 over.
5.5.5 Engine swapping between allowed between corporate manufacturers allowed. Chevy to Pontiac, Mercury to Ford,
Chrysler to Dodge.
5.5.6 No high performance heads allowed, no Vortec. Fuel injected heads allowed with prior approval of chief steward.
No aluminum heads.
5.5.7 No aluminum intake manifolds. Cast iron stock 2-barrel intakes only.
5.5.8 Hydraulic cams only. No “made for racing cams” Cam lift may not exceed .420 at the valve for Chevy, Ford and
Chrysler may not exceed .460 at the valve. Stock lifters, push rods, and rocker arms.
5.5.9 Minimum vacuum in this class is 13 inches as checked by the track techs
5.5.10 Cast iron stock exhaust with no modifications. No center dump style exhaust.
5.5.11 Muffler required with 18” minimum length. All exhaust must exit through mufflers.
5.5.12 Exhaust can be a maximum of 2 ½ OD inch pipe and must exit behind driver under the car and in front of the rear
tires. Exhaust must meet a minimum ground clearance of 5 inches.
5.6 CARBURETOR
5.6.1 Carburetors must be stock, OEM street applicable 2 bbl., with absolutely no alterations.
5.6.2 No electric fuel pumps.
5.6.3 No adapter plates allowed. No factory EGR plates. Cars originally equipped with EGR plates may run a ½ inch
aluminum spacer for throttle clearance only. No other spacers will be allowed.
5.6.4 Stock air cleaner assembly and stock replacement air filter only.
5.6.5 MVS may swap carbs anytime with anyone in this class, or just take yours cuz your to fast.
5.7 ELECTRICAL/BATTERY
5.7.1 No dual point distributors One 12V battery only and it must be strapped and securely covered. Batteries must be
safely and securely mounted under the hood, for example- in stock location, or where heater fan was located, or in a steel
box behind driver.
Master kill switch in center of car is recomended. If battery is in cockpit then kill switch is required.
5.8 COOLING SYSTEM
5.8.1 Radiators must be in stock location.
5.8.2 Radiator overflow catch-can, 1 Quart capacity or more, must be permanently installed and operational. Must be
mounted in front of firewall.
5.8.3 Aluminum racing radiators allowed. Electric fans for cooling radiator OK on engine side of radiator only.
5.9 TRANSMISSION and REAR END
5.9.1 Stock automatic transmission only. Transmission must be for year make and model of car being run.
5.9.2 One transmission cooler allowed in radiator or external mounted.
5.9.3 No posi-trac rears. No locked rears. Stock rear-end with ratio between 3.00 and 3.55 No exceptions.
5.9.4 Violation of ratio rule will result in loss of season points and a fine.
5.9.5 It is mandatory that two 360 degree steel brackets, no less than 2 inches wide and ¼ inch thick, be placed around
the drive shaft and fastened to the floor or cross member of the car to prevent drive shaft from dropping to race track. All
drive shafts must be made of steel and painted white.
5.10 BRAKES
5.10.1 Brake pedal must mount in stock location.
5.10.2 Brakes must be operational and lock up all four wheels. Brake lines must be in good condition. Crushed or
obstructed brake lines will result in loss of season points. Rear brakes must be drum style. No brake bias device allowed.
No after-market type brakes.
5.10.3 Brake master cylinder and booster must remain unaltered and be for car being run.
5.11 ROLL BAR INSTALLATION
5.11.1 All vehicles must have a min 4 point roll cage, min 3 door bars on drivers side. Must be constructed of at least 1
¾”x.095 or better mild steel. No conduit, exhaust pipe or galvanized pipe. No pipe fittings. Roll bar must be located directly
behind the driver and reach as close as possible to the roof and the left side of the car.
5.11.2 Roll bar must be back braced from the top of the bar to the rear car frame (or plate on floor) at approximate 45degree angle. Roll bar members may attach to the frame or floor. For floor installation, attach members to 8”x8” or larger
plates which are securely mounted to the floor.
5.11.3 All bracing must be installed for safety.
5.11.4 Roll bar installation will be subject to Chief Steward approval.
5.11.5 Doorplate required on four door hardtops with no doorpost, or three door bars on driver’s side. Door plate must be
painted to match car body. Plate should overlap the front and rear door edges by at least 12 inches. Door bars may not
extended forward of “A” post or rear ward of hoop. Drivers door bars must be completely plated with min 1/8" steel.
5.12 TRUNK AND HOOD LATCHES
5.12.1 Factory trunk and hood latches must be removed and replaced with pins and easily opened by fire crew. No chains
allowed. Padding under hood must be removed.
5.13 SUSPENSION HEIGHTS WITHOUT DRIVER
5.13.1 Suspension & Chassis parts must remain absolutely stock for make and model. No adjustable spacers, chains, or
other devices allowed to alter stock suspension. No Modifying of suspension is allowed. Racing springs and spring rubbers
allowed only 1 rubber per spring.
5.13.2 Minimum ground clearance is 6 inches.
5.13.3 No spring jacks, blocked shocks, or reverse shackles allowed.
5.13.4 Camber must be within 2 degrees of vertical at all times. No steering stabilizer shocks allowed.
5.13.5 Springs may be stock passenger car or racing spring replacements.
5.13.6 Suspension must be stock and must work. No pinching of shocks to restrict or stop travel.
5.13.7 No new or replacement equipment allowed, unless approved by Chief steward. No high performance parts will be
allowed. No rear sway bars allowed, even if stock for year and model. Front sway bar can use ready rod on one side.
5.13.8 Shocks must be stock replacement or, Aftermarket made for racing shocks allowed. Stock mounts must be used.
No
Adjustable shocks allowed.
5.14 WHEELS AND TIRES
5.14.1 Reinforced racing type wheel mandatory. Wheels minimum 19#s. Maximum wheel width allowed is 8”.
5.14.2 Offset may not be less than two inches and may not exceed 4 inches. 970 maximum tread 3.5/32nds.
5.14.3 All other wheels may be stock steel wheels or racing type wheels. All wheels must be same offset. No
magnesium, aluminum allowed. Maximum tread width outside 77". Wheelbase 112" and over is 78"
5.14.4 Tires must be stock passenger radial tires. No recaps, truck tires or bias ply tires. As of 7-1-09 tires will be 970s
used.
5.14.5 All four tires must be same size and all tires must be 225/70 X 15 or 225/60 X 16 unless 970s.
5.14.6 Minimum tire inflation on all four tires is 30 pounds at pre race tech. Track tire gauge will be the official
measurement of tire pressures.No shaving or conditioning of tires allowed. When 970s are used no PSI rule.
5.15 WEIGHT
5.15.1 Minimum weight is with driver at pre race tech. Wheelbase 112” or more is 3400# and 78"wide- 111.75” or less is
3500# ( and 77" wide plus 100# penality for 400CI engines ) Maximum left anytime is 55%.
5.16 GAS TANK
5.16.1 Stock tank must be removed and replaced with a small and securely mounted 6-gallon outboard marine tank,
plastic or steel. Installed above trunk floor, in center of trunk, as far forward as possible or 12 Gallon cell per Super stock
rulebook.
5.16.2 Fuel line must exit from top or side of tank. No fuel lines in driver’s compartment.
5.16.3 Complete firewall must seal trunk from driver’s compartment. Rear seat may be used as firewall.
5.16.4 Tank must be secured by four, over the tank, straps. (1 ½”x1/8” straps) Two in each direction.
5.16.5 Tech officials must approve installation.
5.17 PERSONAL PROTECTION
5.17.1 Approved helmet required.
5.17.2 Five point racing seat belts required. Neck brace is required in all races at all times.
5.17.3 Window net required on the drivers side and must be mounted properly.
5.17.4 Fire retardant gloves, shoes, and fire suit required.
5.17.5 Center of steering wheel must be padded with a minimum of 2 inches of resilient material.
5.18 ELIGIBILITY
5.18.1 Officials may disqualify anyone from running in this class based on past racing experience.
5.19 MISCELLANEOUS
5.19.1 Illegal parts will be confiscated. No two way radios or scanners.
5.20 NUMBERS
5.20.1 Numbers must be at least 18” high on both doors & 24” on roof in contrasting colors.
5.20.2 Car number at least 6” high must be on passenger side windshield.
5.21 MANAGEMENT CLAIM
5.21.1 Management may make a claim at any time during the event.
5.21.2 The claim amount for the complete car is $1500.00, or $500.00 for the engine. Disposition of car will be determined
by the Speedway management. If you refuse a legal claim, you forfeit purse and/or trophies for the event and season
points. You and the car will not be allowed to compete in events scheduled for the class at the Speedway. Any evidence of
tampering with claimed car before transfer will result in immediate suspension. By competing under these rules, you assert
the driver is empowered to “act” as owner and will allow or disallow claim. Drivers may swap engines for $200.00 and must
run in next event.
5.22 PENALTIES
5.22.1 Illegal items escaping detection during inspection does not make them legal. Competitors found using items that
are not within the rule of being strictly stock will be penalized points for the night and/or season.
5.22.2 Any part of equipment found during an inspection or any other time at any MVS event that does not meet
applicable Magic Valley Speedway standards, must be surrendered to the Magic Valley Speedway Tech Official at that
time, and will not be returned. Failing to do so will result in; a fine, and/or loss of championship points, and/or definite or
indefinite suspension from MVS.
