Keep Allen Beautiful Recycled Art Contest All Allen ISD students are encouraged to join in celebrating Allen Recycles Day and our City’s new Carton Recycling by participating in the Keep Allen Beautiful Recycled Art Contest. GRADES K - 1 COLORING CONTEST Use your imagination and color the coloring page provided, “Recycle Your Cartons!” You may use colored pencils, crayons or markers. Please, no glued items on the coloring page. Students should not write their name on the front of the coloring page (you may write it on the back in pencil). GRADES 2 – 4 POSTER CONTEST (no sculptures will be judged!) Use your imagination and recycling knowledge to create a poster on 22” x 14” poster board or foam core board about recycling using the theme “Recycle Your Cartons! When the contents are gone, let the carton live on!”. Students may write a short essay or poem to accompany the poster. The theme must be stated on the poster. Students may use colored pencils, crayons, paint or markers for the poster. No glued items may be used. Students should not write their name on the front of the poster (you may write it on the back in pencil). GRADES 5 – 6 RECYCLED ART SCULPTURE CONTEST Using recycled cartons, along with other materials that are collected in the City of Allen’s residential recycling program, the student will create an original sculpture with the theme “Recycle Your Cartons! When the contents are gone, let the carton live on!”. Information about cartons may be found at www.recyclecartons.com. Sculpture should be no larger than 15”x15”x25”. Students may use glue, wire, tape, twine or string, or any other adhesive method to create their sculpture. Students should not write their name on the front of the poster (you may write it on the back in pencil). ***Entry Deadline is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17th*** Please submit your work to Mrs. Preston, the art teacher. All participants will receive a certificate of participation from Keep Allen Beautiful. The top three entries from each grade level will be displayed in the City Hall Rotunda from Friday, October 31ST to Saturday, November 8th. Entries will be judged by City Staff, Keep Allen Beautiful Board Members and visitors to the City Hall on October 31 st and November 3rd, and three overall winners per grade will be selected. Winners will be notified through the teachers’ email noted on the entry form and invited to attend a presentation for prizes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th, in the Council Chambers at Allen City Hall and may take home their art work. Winners will be invited to walk with Keep Allen Beautiful in the Annual Rotary Holiday Parade on December 7th. They will need to be accompanied by an adult. Invitations will be forwarded to the teachers’ email noted on the entry form.
