Parish Council Meeting Minutes September 22, 2014 In attendance: Scott Basler, Joe Rozier, Tom Loida, Laura Oliver, Fr. Dennis Schmidt, Natalie Colvis, Mary Odneal, Jerry Staab, Mary Moss, Brenda Stuppy, Jill Metzger Absent: Holly Parmer FORMATION: Discussion of Part 1of Rebuilt. The Council agreed that our parish has much in common with the parish described in this book. Part 2 will be discussed next meeting. Minutes were reviewed. Scott motions to pass. Brenda 2nds. Fr. Dennis had 1 name change that need to be made. Minutes were passed with this revision. COMMITTEE/COMMISSION REPORTS: Christian Service: 333 families helped in August $36, 541 spent YTD and 2265 families have been helped $1000 received from Ste. Genevieve Community Forum $13,463 received YTD from collection basket in church Pantry shelves were restocked thanks to Valle High School homecoming food drive Capital Campaign: Tom Loida Planning for the Mass of Thanksgiving on 10/4 is being completed. 8th grade students from Valle & PSR will be invited to pass out programs prior to the mass Food and music will be provided in the street outside of church after the mass The results of the capital campaign will be announced after the mass Fr. Dennis will remind folks about the thanksgiving mass at the grandparents mass on Sept 24 Education: Valle: Jill Metzger Homecoming was a success! Grandparents day is Wed, Sept 24 Staff is being trained on Virtue Based Restorative Discipline. This is a positive reinforcing system whose 4 corners are: Fortitude, Courage, Prudence, & Justice The school is working on the possibility of afterschool homework sessions that would be available for a small fee. So far, survey responses from parents have been favorable. At their last Academic Council meeting Dr. Gilligan shared a video that would expose kids to the possibility of pursuing computer coding as a career. The main focus of this year has been data driven instruction. Teachers will be teaching what the students need. Cheryl Baumann will be offering instruction to the staff on this topic PSR: Fr. Dennis Tina Ringwald is the new PSR director, please thank her if you see her. All teaching positions have been filled. Currently 55 kids enrolled. Liturgy: Fr. Dennis Some Council members have met Tom’s challenge by asking fellow parishioners to serve as lectors or ministers Fr. Dennis will provide training to all those that are interested. Advancement/Marketing: Joe Rozier Many positive comments from alumni over the homecoming weekend. Lunch ‘n Learn is being implemented at the high school level. Young alumni will return to talk to our high school students about their unique experiences after leaving Valle. Booster donations are up this year PASTORS REPORT: Fr. Dennis passed out the strategic plan Jim Robert is receiving the Rite of Lector on Oct 9 at Kenrick Center. It would be nice if it were well attended. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Open house at the Rozier Building is scheduled for January 24, 2015. This will kick off Catholic Schools Week. Fr. Dennis will handle invitations to the Archbishop and Bishops. The Parish Council will plan the mass which will take place at 4pm on that day. The Rozier Bldg. committee will handle the food, music, decorations, etc for the events after mass. Six volunteers have signed up to help with the pictorial directory. Photos taken over the holidays and directories should be in by May 2015. Fr. Dennis is meeting with Lifetouch on Sept 29 at 2pm Possible CRHP retreat to be held in spring 2015. Natalie, Tom, & possibly a few other Council members will travel to Mary Queen of Peace to hear Tom Corcoran speak on Sept 26. NEW BUSINESS: If you’d like to attend the Parish Council Workshop in October, please contact Tom. Dennis Drumm has resigned his position from the Council. It was decided that Shannon Blum (previously nominated for Council) would be asked to step in and serve the remainder of his term. Mary O. will contact Shannon. Next Meeting: October 27, 2014
