PRESS RELEASE For immediate release June 17, 2013 Media Contact Jane Gendron (435) 640-3315 jgendron@jgendron.com Park City Performing Arts Foundation Presents Noise of the Earth Tour: Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers and Railroad Earth July 15, 2013 St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Outdoor Concert Series at Deer Valley Resort PARK CITY, UT – Decidedly joyful noise. Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers and Railroad Earth deliver a rock and roll blend of remarkable sounds to Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater on July 15. The bands perform in the St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concert series as part of their “Noise of the Earth Tour.” Concert starts at 7 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m. “Part overgrown kid, part artistic maverick – and seldom, if ever predictable…” (The Chicago Tribune), Bruce Hornsby brings lyrical, laidback charm and extraordinary musicianship to the stage. Despite his breezy demeanor, the Grammy winner writes songs with depth. And though Hornsby’s solo career has included a slew of hits – “The Way It Is” and “Mandolin Rain” for starters – he also plays well with others, most notably as the ’90s piano man for The Grateful Dead. Hornsby’s prolific and constantly evolving career has include an array of collaborations with the likes of Don Henley, Willie Nelson, Charlie Haden, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Elton John, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Robbie Robertson, Leon Russell, Chaka Khan, Wayne Shorter, Squeeze, Tupac Shakur, Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Bob Seger and Sting. His albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide and he’s garnered 13 Grammy nominations (including an impressive trio of wins). The native Virginian has also performed, composed and recorded several projects for filmmaker Spike Lee and worked with sports-related documentarians and mainstream films. The Noisemakers – most of whom have played with Hornsby for more than a decade – consists of bassist J.V. Collier, keyboardist/organist John “JT” Thomas, saxophonist and flutist Bobby Read, guitarist/mandolin player Doug Derryberry and drummer Sonny Emory. And, yes, Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers know how to put on a dazzling live show. According to Glide Magazine, “For Hornsby, the unprompted spirit of his live shows is essential in his quest for the perfect musical moment – particularly when joined by The Noisemakers, who almost flawlessly combine rock, jazz, R&B, and modern classical into something far more beautiful than their moniker conveys.” Rockin’ acoustic-roots-Americana band, Railroad Earth, teams up with Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers for the “Noise of the Earth Tour.” With six critically acclaimed studio albums, one live record and an enthusiastic following, this is music that rocks… and does not neatly fit into any one genre. Think amplified bluegrass and rock and roll. Railroad Earth’s music is driven by the remarkable songs of front-man, Todd Sheaffer (lead vocals and acoustic guitars), and is delivered with seamless arrangements and superb musicianship courtesy of all six band members: Tim Carbone (violin, electric guitar, vocals), John Skehan (mandolin, bouzouki, vocals), Andy Goessling (acoustic guitars, banjo, dobro, mandolin, lap steel, flute, pennywhistle, saxophones and vocals), Carey Harmon (drums, hand percussion, vocals), and Andrew Altman (upright and electric bass). The band sings of the nation’s changing landscape and social ills with a commitment reminiscent of Woody Guthrie, while interpolating instrumental timbres that could have been pulled from Celtic or Cajun culture. And their concerts are imbued with the fire-in-the-belly passion of straight-ahead, rock & roll. As Vanity Fair remarks, “The gritty guitars are turned up and the vocals evoke Full Moon Fever-era Tom Petty harmonies.” And The Aspen Times writes, “Sheaffer’s songs remain firmly rooted in the natural world, the yearning for human bonding, and reflections on simpler, less plugged-in times.” CONCERT DETAILS All St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concerts take place at Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.
