Seminar on Orthopedic Therapeutic Exercise Explore and discuss the principals and prescription of therapeutic exercise as it applies to a diverse outpatient orthopedic population. The physical therapy student and practicing clinician will learn how orthopedic therapeutic exercises can be applied in a progressive manner to improve the outcomes of their patients. Emphasis will be placed on evidence based practice and the importance of a patient centered approach to care. Core tenets of this seminar will emphasize the importance of progressive exercise, quality movement patterns, consideration of regional interdependence and functional movement patterns. 30 CEU credit available via KPTA Course Instructor: Jason Bracco, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS has been in outpatient clinical practice for 20 years and has an extensive background with a variety of orthopedic patient populations. A 2005 graduate of the Bellarmine University PT program, Jason earned his OCS in 2008. Jason utilizes an eclectic approach to patient care drawing on his experiences in athletic training, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning and manual therapy. Course Objectives: Upon the completion of this seminar course the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principals of orthopedic based therapeutic exercise (exam). 2. Demonstrate knowledge of how differences in patient demographics effect therapeutic exercise prescription (exam). 3. Describe how the pathology of injury, tissue response to injury, post surgical procedures and tissue healing effect therapeutic exercise prescription and progression (exam). 4. Describe how regional interdependence and functional movement patterns play a role in the development of the orthopedic therapeutic exercise program (exam and laboratory practical exam). 5. Demonstrate a variety of therapeutic exercises for each region of the body. (exam and laboratory practical exam). Course Schedule: 26 hours of in class lecture and lab 4 hours of online coursework (1 hour per week) Tuesday & Thursdays / January 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 27th / 4:30 to 7:30 pm Saturday / January 10th & 24th / 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration Fee for Clinicians: $450.00
