Information shared with the 140 attendees covered the different organizations that International Outreach focuses on. This chairman chose Shot @ Life as the special focus for the 2012-2013 administration. As an example for clubs, small shot glasses were filled with M & M and Skittles candies for a special promotion donation to Shot @ Life. Printed handouts were distributed for each of the partnership areas. Five clubs participated in International Outreach Community Service Projects. Women’s Club of Spring Township sponsored a shoe drive supporting “Soles 4 Souls.” Twenty-seven Club members spent 47 hours collecting, sorting, bagging and delivering 333 pairs of shoes. The Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club did project Hope Phones. Twelve members collected 42 used cell phones for Medic Mobil. GFWC Women’s Club of Baden has an International Celebration for the club year. Twenty-five club members spent 37 hours presenting a program about the country of their heritage or a country they visited during monthly club meetings. Fifty members of the Pocono Women’s Club spent 100 hours hosting an international dinner with different ethnic food items. Their guest speaker, Robert Larson spoke about bringing clean water to Africa. Two members of State College Woman’s Club hosted an International Student reception at Penn State University. GFWC Pennsylvania clubs heartily embraced the partnership programs focused on countries around the world. As reflected in the following statistics, there is a strong emphasis from GFWC Pennsylvania clubwomen to make donations to these partnership agencies to those in great need. Robinson 130 Pleasant Valley Road 724-355-0037, jnrobin@zoominternet.net SHOT @ LIFE In keeping with the GFWC Pennsylvania chairman’s focus, two clubs participated in Shot @ Life. GFWC Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club’s 28 members spent 5 hours raising money to give a child a shot at a healthy life by raising $580.00, enough money to help 29 children. Abington Heights Civic League, Inc. sold a variety of sweet shots, including chocolate, gummy bears, smarties and mints, at one of their meetings to raise money for Shot @ Life. Sixty-one dollars was raised to sponsor three children. UNICEF The 77 members of GFWC Abington Heights Civic League spent 125 hours distributing over 1200 “Trick or Treat” for UNICEF Boxes to four Abington Heights Elementary Schools. Two of the schools used UNICEF internet games to interest the students in UNICEF. Members collected the donations throughout the month of November. The total amount collected and sent to UNICEF was $1028.00. HEIFER INTERNATIONAL Twenty five members of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Milton raised $250.00 to earmark an animal purchase. Members used Heifer as honorarium gifts at Christmas. OPERATION SMILE GFWC State College Woman’s Club spent 210 hours making 47 bags for Operation Smile. The in kind donations of $1,116 bought 27 items for the bags including, toothpaste, stuffed animals, coloring books, bars of soap, pens, crayons, dolls and stickers. Nineteen members of The GFWC Women’s Civic Club of Schwenksville spent 4,128 hours making, packing and delivering the 1030 gowns, 869 smile dolls, 236 teddy bears, 14 blankets, 28 smile bags and 44 arm bands to Operation Smile in Virginia. The in kind donations of $13,007.00 helped play an integral part in helping these children attain a pleasant experience to their journey of smiles. Eight members GFWC Woman’s Club of Spring Township spent 80 hours making 100 “No-No” Armbands. Children wear these bands on their arms to prevent them from touching their surgical site. All material was donated and the ribbon was purchased. The finished product was worth $2.50 each. Five members of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Milton also spent 50 hours, making 98 “NoNo Armbands. The Abington Heights Civic League Club assisted one of their members of donating four smiles to Operation Smile. In April they spent 64 hours at photo shoots where a portion of the proceeds benefited Operation Smile. They raised $400.00
