Sustainability Project Plan Date 30/4/2015 School name St Patrick’s School Project Title Sustainability GOAL: To ensure long-term suitability at St Patrick’s School through the development of environmentally conscious measures. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: St Patrick’s school has identified the need to develop initiatives that ensure the environmental sustainability of the school as one of the focus areas of development. St Patrick’s school aims to implement a range of initiatives to develop a vision to reduce the environmental footprint of the school. Our approach will be based on areas of the school’s current practices that have been identified needing to be more environmentally conscious. The initiatives aim to ensure that the school can maintain sustainability in the future. The project also aims to development the student’s awareness of the need to develop practices that are sustainable. The initiatives that are intended to be implemented will be adopted by the whole school community and students will be made fully aware of the need to reduce the school’s environmental footprint. The initiatives that aim to be implemented have the added element of enhancing the school’s visual appearance. OBJECTIVES: - To reduce the school’s electricity costs, minimize waste and to ensure sustainability into the future. STRATEGIES: - Investigate the electricity tariffs to ensure that St Patrick’s is on the most economical tariff. Progress: - Paul Bryant (DCEO) contacted St WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? - Mary-Anne WHEN? - Beginning of May 2015 Patrick’s school to propose that St Patrick’s school - 24/7/15 Paul Bryant and Mark Effeney, Max Martin and Kylie Heinemann have met with Gem Energy about the proposal of St Patrick’s being a trial school for the implantation of sustainably measures for the school. Data is currently being collected to determine the energy saving measures that will be implemented in the trial. - Investigate the possibility of separating the food scraps from the lunch rubbish to provide local industries with food for their animals. - Conduct a school light efficiency audit and explore the cost involved in replacing current lights with energy efficient lights. Progress: - This is to be conducted as part of the trial from Gem Energy looking at implementing sustainability measures for the school. - Explore the costs and procedures involved in installing solar panels to generate power for the school. Placing paper recycling bins in all classrooms and educating the staff and students to recycle paper. CHECKPOINTS: - In the beginning of June a meeting will be arranged involving Kylie Heinemann, Juliana McCosker and Mary-Anne Uren to discuss the feedback from the Board and identify progression with sourcing the information regarding the identified strategies that are to be implemented.
