REGULATION FOR ATTENDANCE OF YEAR ZERO
Article 1
Objectives
1. Allow students to contact with Portuguese higher education by providing them with access
to knowledge and methodologies in the study areas offered by UBI.
2. Prepare students for the national examinations for access to higher education
(Mathematics A and/or Physics and Chemistry A).
3. Provide knowledge of the Portuguese language (levels B1 and B2 of the Framework of
Reference of Languages) to foreign students.
Article 2
Target Audience
The attendance of Year Zero is for:
a) Holders of the 12th grade, or equivalent;
b) Candidates who, having the 12th grade incomplete, are able to finish it during the school
year in which they enrol.
Article 3
Application
The application for the year Zero is performed through the online system, by filling out a
form and uploading the documents to its submission:
a) Photocopy of identity card, citizen card or passport;
b) Course certificate of secondary education (12 years of education), with Internal Final
Classification;
c) Certificate of the subjects of year 12, in which the candidate obtained approval with
Internal Final Classification;

d) In the case of foreign applicants, they should present a document equivalent to that
referred to in point b).
Article 4
Criteria and Seriation
1. Applicants will be serialized in descending order of value of CS (classification of
seriation), obtained by applying the formula below, with rounding to one decimal
point:
CS= 0,7xA + 0.3xB
1.1. In the Seriation Classification (CS) the factors are:
a) Average classification of 12th year of schooling;
b) Classification of the admission examination of the course which most of the
curricular units chosen by the candidate belong to;
c) In cases where the applicant has not completed the 12th year the average
classification is calculated by summing the ratings of the subjects in which he
obtained approval, divided by four;
d) In cases where the applicant has not completed the third year of a professional
course (equivalent to 12th year) the average is calculated by summing the ratings of
the subjects in which he obtained approval, divided by the number of subjects that
are considered for calculating the average classification;
Article 5
Deadlines
Applications take place on the dates set out in the school and academic calendar.
Article 6
Vacancies
The vacancies for each course are published annually by Rector’s dispatch.

Article 7
Enrolment
The admitted candidates must perform the enrolment within the time limits laid down for this
purpose.
Article 8
Registration
1. The admitted candidates may enrol up to a maximum of 30 credit units (ECTS).
2. The chosen course units must belong necessarily to the first year of a 1st cycle course.
3. In the case of foreign students the enrolment in two semi-annual course units of the
Portuguese language is compulsory.
Article 9
Attendance, evaluation and certification
1. Admitted students are subject to the rules of functioning of the UCs in which they enrol.
2. The assessment is mandatory and a certificate stating the classification obtained will be
issued.
3. The units referred to in paragraph 2 of article 8 must be credited in accordance with the
law if the holder thereof has, or will acquire the status of student of UBI.
Article 10
Fees and charges
For the inscription on Year Zero are due the amounts fixed in the table of fees and charges in
effect in UBI.
Article 11
Omissions and doubts

The omissions and doubts raised in the implementation of this regulation are resolved by Rector
Dispatch.
Article 12
Entry into force
This Regulation shall take effect upon its publication in the Portuguese official document “Diário
da República”.
