Session Topic: Laboratory Testing of Offshore Sediments Session Co-Chairs: J. Antonio H. Carraro, Associate Professor, Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems, The University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia, antonio.carraro@uwa.edu.au Rune Dyvik, Technical Lead, Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Oslo, Norway, rune.dyvik@ngi.no Abstract: Quality testing of offshore sediments in a geotechnical laboratory requires rigorous understanding of fundamental soil mechanics principles, expertise in advanced experimental methods, and an appreciation of the unique factors distinguishing offshore sediments from typical onshore soils. This session is expected to attract technical papers summarizing applied industry projects or research studies related to laboratory testing and characterization of offshore sediments. Potential authors may come from academia, research agencies, engineering consulting firms, government agencies, equipment manufacturers and offshore site investigation contractors. Topics covering all relevant aspects of testing, characterization and modelling of offshore sediments are particularly welcome. These include (but are not limited to) issues related to salinity, fabric and anisotropy, particle breakage and inter-particle bonding, stiffness degradation and damping (from small to large strains), cyclic loading, thermo-mechanical analyses, and mechanical response to multi-directional loading scenarios. Studies describing new testing methods or covering a rigorous review of existing testing procedures and practices are also welcome. Analyses of element test results including comparisons with numerical simulations may be considered if the primary focus is on the laboratory test results and experimental methods used. Sponsorships: - Sponsored by ASCE Geo-Institute’s Soil Properties and Modelling Committee - In cooperation with ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock Submission Instructions: Abstract submission will open on December 15, 2015. Please encourage potential authors to submit their abstracts by March 8, 2016 at http://www.geotechnicalfrontiers.org
