Brief Curriculum Vitae
Gustavo Fernandez, (1979, Avila (Spain)) received his Ph.D.
from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) in 2009
under the supervision of Professors Nazario Martín and Luis
Sanchez for work on donoracceptor covalent and
supramolecular systems based on [60]fullerene. His Thesis
was recognized with the European Young Chemist Award 2008
and the Honorable Mention Award associated with the IUPAC
Prize for Young Chemists 2010. Between February 2009 and
December 2010, he enjoyed an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral research
fellowship in the group of Professor Frank Würthner working on (bis)merocyanine
dye aggregates. Since December 2010 he leads an independent junior research
group at the University of Würzburg in the framework of the Sofja Kovalevskaja
programme granted from the Humboldt foundation and funded by the German
Federal Ministry of Education and Research. His main research interests concern the
study and characterization of supramolecular architectures based on dye aggregates,
self-assembly in aqueous media, and the investigation of (metallo)supramolecular
multicomponent systems based on π-conjugated scaffolds. His habilitation work has
been recently recognized with the Keck-Köppe Prize. He has authored ~30
publications and delivered around 35 talks at national/international conferences or
seminars at universities.
