GCSE English, English Language and GCSE English Literature (Out of Wales Centres) Check list for sample folders. Before sending the folders to the moderator, please check that: Folder choice Your sample of folders must match those students identified on the Internal Assessment Mark Input System (see the Internal Assessment Manual for information about the electronic input of marks). The sample should only vary from this if: an alternative to an incomplete folder is included; the number of teaching groups (with three folders per teacher) causes the sample to exceed 30 folders, in which case you should ensure that at least two folders per teacher are included. If it has been necessary to deviate from the sample identified on the Internal Assessment Mark Input System (for example in the case of an incomplete folder or a withdrawn candidate), it is helpful to enclose a note to your centre’s moderator explaining the change. Class lists It is no longer a requirement that class lists be sent to the moderator. However, it is vital that the correct teacher initials are entered onto the Internal Assessment Mark Input System. Folders The work in the folders is presented in coversheet order. The students and teachers have signed the coversheets. This is a mandatory requirement and coversheets will have to be returned to centres if they are not signed. Work that is not authenticated by student and teacher may not be accepted. Each coversheet has the student’s candidate number on it. Each coversheet contains clear details of all assignments (e.g. title, background information) Each coversheet indicates whether clean copies of the texts were used (as applicable) You have included all GCSE English/English Language folders where a scribe has been used, even if they are not required by the Internal Assessment Mark Input System–created sample. The JCQ document, Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments 2014-2015, states: “A cover sheet must also be attached to any controlled assessment / coursework completed with the aid of a scribe. The work must be sent to the examiner/moderator in addition to the sample requested. The cover sheet must be signed by the scribe and countersigned by the head of centre or examinations officer.” For English Literature folders, please check that: The details of the Unit 1 and Unit 2 texts studied, including the poetry, are recorded on the coversheet The students' A4 sheet of notes is attached. If notes have not been used, please indicate this on the student's coversheet. It is helpful if centres note the separate marks that are awarded for the three Assessment Objectives on their students' work. These marks should be arrived at after considering the assessment criteria for each AO. As noted in the Assessment Criteria, AO1 (Critical response to texts) is marked out of 10, AO2 (Language, structure and form) is marked out of 10 and AO3 (Making links) is marked out of 20. The assessment criteria can be accessed in the specification. The final holistic mark out of 40 should be entered onto the Internal Assessment Mark Input System. There is no requirement to break down the separate marks on the system. For English/English Language Reading pieces please check that: Each Reading assignment has the student’s A4 page of notes, where used, attached. If notes have not been used, please indicate as such on the student’s coversheet. For English/English Language Writing pieces please check that: the split mark is clearly indicated on the individual pieces of work and the coversheet (Content and organisation out of 14; Sentence structure, punctuation and spelling out of 6). If any Writing work has been word processed, it is indicated that the spellchecker facility and the internet have been disabled. For English Language Spoken Language work, please check that: A separate coversheet has been completed for this element. The transcript for the Spoken Language Study (GCSE English Language) and the student’s notes are attached to the work. Speaking and Listening You will have been allocated a separate moderator for Speaking and Listening. Please do not submit your sample of record keeping sheets and outline of activities form/s to your written controlled assessment moderator. Instead, this will need to be submitted separately to your speaking and listening moderator by 5 May 2015. Presentation It is really helpful to moderators if the students' work is not placed in plastic envelopes or any other complicated storage. It is sufficient for the work to be treasury tagged or stapled. Please send the folders to the moderator before or by the deadline provided by WJEC. An address label for your moderator can be printed via the Internal Assessment Mark Input System once marks have been submitted. Marks may be submitted from 9 March onwards. Deadlines: 27 March 2015 for all centres except FE colleges, Special Schools and PRUs. 5 May 2015 for FE colleges, Special Schools and PRUs only.
