Overview 1.1. Background & Description of the role War Child’s mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment for children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion. Over the next five years War Child will develop its organisational capability to benefit, directly and indirectly, 10% of the most marginalised children, living in ten of the worst conflict affected countries in the world. War Child will campaign to persuade decision makers to begin allocating the level of financial and political commitment needed to reduce the number of children dying and suffering from the effects of war. We will harness the credibility and learning from the increased scale of our programmes work to make a significant contribution to the conditions, in which others are encouraged, enabled and compelled to benefit those children marginalised by conflict that War Child is unable to help directly. The Corporate Partnerships and Events Assistant voluntary role is crucial for our award-winning, creative Fundraising Division, in supporting the team in raising funds to continue this rapid growth and expansion of our impact. The Corporate & Events Assistant role will have a focus on supporting War Child’s corporate accounts and supporting the Events team with our annual fundraising gigs. 1.2. Key Responsibilities Provide support in account managing War Child’s existing partnerships Maintain individual corporate contacts and organisations on War Child’s fundraising database Utilise War Child’s fundraising database as a relationship management tool to record, monitor and report on existing partnerships. Assist Music and Special Events team in delivering successful concerts. Work on festival activity where War Child is the media partner and help the Challenge Events team recruit and manage a team of festival stewards for relevant events. Represent Special Events team at War Child music events (may require working some evenings and weekends) Help in the planning of War Child events in 2015 including music and comedy gigs, trading day fundraisers and a Christmas gala dinner. 1.3. Responsible for o Providing indirect support to the Corporate Partnerships and Music team. 1.6. Contractual Terms o This role will be a 4-6 month placement, working 5 days a week. o This role involves working in War Child’s offices in Kentish Town (NW5) o This is a voluntary position, with lunch and travel costs provided (for travel within zones 1-6 of London Underground) 2. Job Description 2.1. Corporate Fundraising Support the Corporate Partnerships team in developing War Child’s portfolio of corporate partners committed to supporting the charity in a wide range of corporate fundraising activity (including but not exclusively Charity of the Year, CRM, sponsorship, trusts) Corporate account support: Provide day to day support for current corporate partnerships working with Corporate Partnerships Manager to maximise income. Support in the development of corporate fundraising activity on a project by project basis. Build excellent working relationships across the organisation, with teams who help to deliver War Child’s corporate partnerships Build excellent working relationships with staff who work for War Child’s corporate partners Support at corporate events as required Maintain information on corporate contacts and organisations on War Child’s fundraising database Music and Events support: Assist Music and Special Events teams deliver a successful Brit Awards concert (Feb 23) Assist Music and Special Events teams deliver a successful series of Passport: Back to the Bars concerts (Feb 16 - 24) Job Description and Person Specific Requirements Work on festival activity where War Child is the media partner and help the Challenge Events team recruit and manage a team of festival stewards for relevant events Represent Special Events team at War Child music events (may require working some evenings and weekends) Help in the planning of War Child events in 2015 (Aviate Trading Day, Winter Wassail, Classic Brits, Comedy night, Rock Show) Working with the MAMA Group on various War Child related events like the Great Escape and warmup shows leading up to the Great Escape Festival. 3. Essential Requirements War Child’s office is a fun and lively environment made up of small group of extremely dedicated staff and volunteers. We’re looking for someone who can fit in well and bring their own personality and creativity to our fundraising and the wider charity. 3.1. Experience Conducting desk research Excellent written and verbal communicator Some understanding of charity fundraising mechanisms 3.2. Expertise Confident to work independently Relationship development Attention to detail Ability to effectively organise and prioritise your own workload Demonstrate a flexible attitude to working, including some weekend working and occasional visits to the network IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases 3.3. Legal o Eligible to work in the UK 4.
