What is the research about?
This research asks young women aged 14-25 about being in fights with other young women and using social media to watch
videos of fights between young women. We are doing this because we don’t know much about why young women:

Fight other young women;

Watch young women fight; or

Use social media to post or watch videos of fights between young women.
We are hoping that this research will allow us to better understand the reasons that young women fight with other young
women, and to better help young women who have been in fights with other young women in the future.
Are you looking for people like me?
We are looking for young women like yourself to answer questions in our online survey (and do an interview when you have
finished the survey if you are interested) so that we can learn more about how young women fight, what happens when young
women fight, and what happens when videos of the fight are posted to social media.
What will you ask me to do?
If you choose to be part of the research, you will do an online survey that will take about 20 minutes to do. When you have
finished the survey you can click on the link that will take you to a different QUT website to provide your first name, email
address, and phone number so you can tell us you want to do an interview and/or go into a draw to win an iPod. We use a
secure QUT website for you to record your details so that they are not linked to your survey answers.
Are there any risks for me in taking part?
We know being in fights with other young women may have made you upset, and doing the survey may make you feel upset
again. We will put exit points in the survey so you can stop doing it at any time and we put in options so that you can choose
not to answer a question. We will also give you information about where to find counselling. If you choose to take part in the
survey we will give you more information about this. When you finish the survey, you will not be able to stop being part of the
research, as we will not be able to tell which answers are yours.
Are there any benefits for me in taking part?
We are hoping the research will tell us more about how young women fight with other young women, and what happens when
a video of the fight is posted to social media. We want to learn about this to make prevention programs to help teach young
women about how not to get into fights with young women.
Will I be compensated for my time?
To thank you for doing the survey, we are giving you the chance to win an iPod. When you have finished the survey, you can
click on the link that will take you to another secure QUT website where you can put in your first name, phone number and
email to enter the draw. If you finish an interview, you will be given $20 of iTunes credit to say thank you for your time.
I am interested – what should I do next?
If you would like to be part of this study, click on the link to do the survey:

We will give you more details about being part of the project.
