166 Euphemia St. N. ● Sarnia, Ontario N7T6A3 ● 1-519-872-7809 ● mmceach7@uwo.ca Matthew J. McEachran Objective To obtain a position within a laboratory in a research and development setting in which I utilize the skill-set developed through my education Summary Currently completing my MSc. under the supervision of Dr. E. R. Gillies investigating the synthesis and applications of polymers, the project is in collaboration with LANXESS Inc. We are studying post polymerization modification of butyl rubber in pursuit of functional bio-materials. Experience working with butyl rubber is a fairly specialized skill-set itself beyond the many techniques such as NMR, GPC, TGA, DSC & AFM used to fully characterize these materials. Prior to my work at the University of Western Ontario I completed my BSc. while working with Dr. V. Kitaev at Wilfrid Laurier University where we examined the synthesis and modification of various inorganic nanoparticles. Common analysis techniques were UV-Vis, IR, SERS, and SEM & TEM. The years of experience within a research lab setting has instilled many excellent research qualities such as excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, problem solving and an exceptional self-motivation. Professional Experience Jan. 2011— Dec. 2012 University of Western Ontario London, Ontario University of Western Ontario London, Ontario Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo, Ontario Research Assistant Under the supervision of Dr. E. R. Gillies I was responsible for development, progression, analysis and reporting of butyl rubber based products. Various techniques used in both synthesis and analysis, more specifically running reactions under inert conditions and using NMR, GPC, DSC & TGA in full analysis of new materials. Jan. 2011— Dec. 2012 Teachers Assistant Responsible for teaching first year students in a lab and classroom setting, this position required excellent oral communication skills to convey information in a more straight forward fashion. In charge of maintaining safety standards for the students and the lab to ensure experiments were completed in a safe timely manner. May 2008— Sept. 2010 Research Assistant Under the supervision of Dr. V. Kitaev we synthesized and analyzed new and unique silver/gold nanoparticles, utilized UV-Vis, SEM, and TEM & SERS in analyzing and reporting these new morphologies. Sept. 2008— April 2010 Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo, Ontario Teachers Assistant Was chosen as a first year lab teachers assistant, this position was focused in the laboratory setting ensuring safety of the students and equipment. Education Degrees Jan. 2011— Dec. 2012 University of Western Ontario London, Ontario Master of Science Chemistry, Polymer/ Organic Chemistry Sept. 2007 — May 2010 Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo, Ontario Bachelors of Science Chemistry, Bio-Organic concentration Professional and Community Memberships Canadian Society of Chemistry Member Publications Peer Reviewed Journals Thompson, D.; Trebicky, T.; Crewdson, P.; McEachran, M.; Stojcevic, G.; Arsenault, G.; Woon, L.; Gillies, E. “Functional Polymer Laminates from Hyperthermal Hydrogen Cross-Linking” Langmuir, 2011, 27, 12480 McEachran, M.; Keogh, D.; Pietrobon, B.; Cathcart, N.; Gourevich, I.; Coombs, N.; Kitaev, V. “Ultrathin Gold Nanoframes through Surfactant-Free Templating of Faceted Pentagonal Silver Nanoparticles” J.
