Culture and education The Festival of the Blossoming Apple-Trees takes place annualy, on the second Sunday of May. The celebration begins with the service in the local church. After that, all the participants walk to the square near the community office where they can celebrate and enjoy the time in the atmosphere of the family picnic. Pupils from the local schools as well as invited pop bands perform on stage. In Samborzec near the main road there are kindergarten and schools: Primary school- for children from 6 to 13 and Secondary school for children 13 – 16. Nature Loessal hills and ravines are an inherent part of the landscape of the area. The picturesque ravines are the result of the action of rain on the loessal rock. The most beautiful, the saint Queen Jadwiga ravine is in Sandomierz. But Samborzec area can also be proud of numerous lovely ravines. Apple-trees orchards are predominant on the area. The are worth seeing in the time of blossoming, the end of April and beggining of May. The river Koprzywianka and small ponds and lakes make the landscape even more charming. WELCOME TO SAMBORZEC The village of Samborzec is located on the edge of Sandomierz Upland, in its northwestern part, on the border of the Sandomierz Basin, near the river Vistula. Samborzec, the village and the community is on the route Sandomierz – Kraków, about 10 km from Sandomierz and 160 km from Kraków. First settlements in this area appeared around 4 – 7 thousand years ago. Nowadays in 28 villages lives 9000 inhabitants. There are three Roman Catholic churches located within the borders of Samborzec community. there is a precious picture “The Holy Dispute” painted in the XIV c. St. John the Baptist church. It was probably built in 1347 in the early gothic style. The exact date of the Churches Antoni Rewera: Father AntoniRewera was born in Samborzec in 1869 (6 I). He was the parish priest in St. Joseph parish in Sandomierz and the professor in the local seminary. During the II World War arrested by the German police (Gestapo), died in the concentration camp in Dachau (Germany) on the 1 X 1942. Proclaimed blessed by the Pope John Paul II in 1999. Władysław Miegoń: Father WładysławMiegoń was also born in Samborzec in 1892. He was A.Rewera’s nephew. He worked as a chaplain and the commodore in the Polish Naval Forces. During the II World War he voluntarily joined his fellow officers arrested by the Germans and was transported with them to the Dachau concentration camp. Tortured and tormented to death on the15 X. Beatified by the Pope John Paul II on the 13 VI 1999. Chapels and wayside shrines: Chapel in Samborzec, located on a hill, below the church. Wayside shrine in Chobrzany, one of many similar scattered in the picturesque scenery. Manor House In Skotniki: Holy Trinity Church In Samborzec, built in XIII c. on the high loessal hill. Near the church there is a belfry. Inside the Church there is an altar of the Holy Trinity. St. John the Evangelist church in Chobrzany originally built in 1333. Rebuilt within the ages. The present building comes from the XIX c. Inside the church, in one of the two side altars, construction is not known. Places to visit Famous people The Manor House was first built In XIII c. bythe Skotnicki family and it was rebuilt throughout the centuries. The building still belongs to the same family.
