HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM GUIDE June 2011 Intensive Mathematics for Geometry Course 1200400G Who Takes Intensive Math in 2011 - 2012 (This is not an exclusive list) th 10 grader who was passing Algebra 1 until the State EOC 9th Grader level 1 or 2 10th grader who failed Algebra 1 as a 9th grader 10th grader who passed Algebra 1 Level 1 or 2 Recommendations for curriculum: Semester 1 Intensive A + Geometry Intensive A + Algebra 1 Intensive A + Algebra 1 Intensive G + Geometry Semester 2 Intensive G (If EOC was passed at end of 1st semester; otherwise repeat Intensive A) + Geometry Intensive A + Algebra 1 Intensive A or G + Algebra 1 (Could theoretically stop Algebra 1 if EOC is passed at end of first semester) Intensive G + Geometry Students should first complete the pre-test in Data Warehouse. The test number is 12486. The test contains three items per standard benchmark in order to assess mastery of each. Teachers may administer the entire test at one time, or break it into more manageable pieces to be tested at different times throughout the course. Question item numbers for each benchmark in the pre-test are listed in the table below. A benchmark mastery record should be kept on file for each student. Instruction needs to be differentiated for individual students depending on the level of mastery of each benchmark. Two out of three test items answered correctly show mastery on the pre-test, or 80% in subsequent testing (5 questions recommended). The adopted materials for this course are the Buckle Down Florida High School Geometry workbook and the ETA Cuisenaire Geometry resources. Online resources include www.mangahigh.com and www.studyisland.com , which provide an alternative to paper and pencil practice for students. The manipulative resources from ETA Cuisenaire can help students connect ideas and gain a deeper understanding of the mathematical concepts. They are appropriate for whole or small group instruction. It is appropriate in this course to spend class time completing assignments and reinforcing concepts of the students’ regular mathematics course.
