1. Learning Commons Update
New images have been installed on the TigerLan computers. There’s no estimated arrival dates for the
Mac computers. Instruction groups are in full swing. The Dell Optiplex 270 computer that had the
scanner attached to it has been removed. Patrons have been asking if the scanner and computer will be
replaced and if there are other scanners in the library. Dr. Ford will consider asking for additional
scanners.
2. Tiger Blue Goes Green Day
The University will have its 3rd Annual Tiger Blue Goes Green Day on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Student Plaza. The library will have a booth setup with a triptych
display, handouts, and a laptop for accessing the online catalog and databases. If you have some
materials that you think would be useful to students, faculty and other participants, or if you would like
to volunteer to work at the booth, please contact Tom Mendina.
We should be prepared for questions about the library’s own efforts towards sustainability. Some of
the library’s current efforts towards sustainability are recycling, using cost saving light bulbs and
energy saving monitors, and using electronic resources. The library was built to use 277 volt
electricity instead of 110 volts to save energy. If there are other sustainability initiatives that are being
taken by the library, please send them to Tom Mendina. Also, James Singleton may be able to get
some cost data from Physical Plant for the library’s HVAC and electrical cost savings.
We will have a display on Turbine Tech in the Rotunda for 2 weeks, beginning on Sept. 13th. We’ll
have a program on Sept. 15th by Prof. Hochstein and the inventor of this underwater turbine
technology, Geoffrey Greene.
3. Budget Update
The library will be receiving approximately $412,000 in MOE stimulus money, which is 2/3 of what
we received last year. Since stimulus money will be depleted after this fiscal year, the University has
decided to distribute only 2/3 of the stimulus money and distribute the remaining amount during the
2012 fiscal year. Stimulus money will be available around October. Money that was carried forward

from last fiscal year may be available in 2 weeks. It is uncertain if employees will receive a one-time
bonus this year.
4. Program Review Preparations
The library’s program review will take place towards the end of October. Annelle and the Dean are
meeting with Tom Nenon to get some guidance on what should be included in the review. Start
thinking about the type of information that would be useful for us to communicate to people outside
the library to strengthen our case about our role at the institution, the significance of our being a part of
the institution, and more importantly, the need for us to be funded. The purpose of the program
reviews is to help the University leadership to decide how to allocate funds. A draft of this year’s
program review will be ready for viewing at the next LAC meeting.
5. Library Policy Review
Because policies haven’t been reviewed in a while, they will be updated and reviewed over the next
several weeks along with forms. You’ll be given an opportunity to provide input into this process.
Send your comments and ideas to Inez Todd.
6. Added Agenda Items
 Website: Julie Xu’s first goal is to evaluate and update the website. The website has to be in a
constant state of renovation, renewal, and growth. Send ideas and suggestions to Julie. We have
received comments about how difficult it is to find things on the library’s website. In the LibQual
Survey, one of the top 5 concerns was finding things on the library’s website.
 Web Team: We have a web team functioning here in the library. If there are other individuals
who need to be involved with the web team, please inform John Evans. If there are others who
have strong insights & opinions, data, etc., about the web team, all of that will be useful in the
process. Each department should have a representative on the web team. If your representative is
not doing his/her job, you need to re-evaluate that appointment. Web Team members really need
to be paying attention and doing what needs to be done to keep the web content up-to-date and
accurate. Our web page is our introduction to the outside world. What people see on our website
says a lot about us.
 Web 2.0 Technologies: The University Libraries is on Facebook. A suggestion was made to place
a library tour on YouTube. Bess & Perveen are interested in doing Podcasts and using Camtasia.
The library is not too involved in some of the popular web 2.0 technologies because of human
resources and managing and monitoring those technologies. There are some technologies that the
library wants to take advantage of, but we want to look at all of them and make informed decisions
on which ones we will utilize.

Announcements
James
The sensor is going bad on the front door entrance side. Interior doors could be replaced
with revolving doors to solve the sensor and temperature problems, but it is costly. James
will present that to Physical Plant again.
Stacey
● The Circulation Department handled over 524 directional questions the first week of
school.
● Many students were looking for textbooks in the library and left disappointed.
● Students are unaware of the computers on the other floors. Some signs could help
inform students about additional computers being available on other floors and also the
computer area that’s under construction on the second floor.
● Navigating the webpage is still an issue.
● We’ve received 52 applications for the two LAC III positions. The library will use one
pool of applicants to fill both positions.
Mary
Government Publications has installed a display on the Oil Spill in the Gulf in the
Rotunda near the fish bowl.
Steven
Staff members in Collection Management are still being cross trained.
Betsy
There is now wireless guest access, but these guests do not have access to our databases.
Betsy will email the instructions.
Anna
The Music Library has a new circulation desk. Some additional shelving has been
installed to help with expansion.
Dr. Ford
● The Faculty Senate Policy Committee, chaired by Dr. Mark Danley, met for the first
time this year. The members are strong library supporters interested in getting data and
presenting it to the Senate. The committee discussed providing information on ILL cost
because a lot of people don’t understand the expense.
● New book shelves will be here soon for displaying new books in the Rotunda.
● Shelving is being installed on the 5th floor of Brister Hall.
● At the last conversation with the Provost, he asked if it would be useful for us to have
storage in Millington. If retrieval is possible, that might be a good option. We’ll have to
consider all the related issues.
Meeting adjourned at 9:40 am.
